When Mike Johnson or another national leader repeatedly claims they haven’t seen relevant things in the news, an appropriate reporter reaction would be “Holy cow, how do you not know?!? How can you do your job without knowing what’s happening? What are you doing to fix your ‘not knowing’ problem?”
I don't understand why U.S. reporters so regularly seem to let politicians get away with 'I haven't seen that' about stuff a) they obviously know and b) is directly relevant to their job. Did they sign some kind of agreement never to ask a follow-up question?
REPORTER: We know the president moved forward with mass layoffs. We're also learning there were significant cuts to staff at special education services. Are you comfortable with those cuts?

MIKE JOHNSON: I haven't seen the specifics of that and I don't know

Again, every time this happens, we literally have no idea if the masked, plainclothes people are actual government agents, or private citizens acting in party-affiliated paramilitaries. The whole point of IDs & uniforms & no masks is that we know these things.

Promoting the editor-in-chief's personal side project. Zero named sources in a story that promotes the editor-in-chief's personal political position. Misspelling the subject's name. It took one day for CBS News to become a conservative blog.

ALSO. ALSO. Needing us to find Europeans who condemned him for his actions at the time--and there are many! So many! My God so many!--is also some white supremacist bullshit, because the TAINO PEOPLE HE WAS MURDERING CERTAINLY CONDEMNED HIM FOR IT AND THEY WERE HUMAN BEINGS OF HIS TIME TOO.
Christopher Columbus was dragged back to Spain in chains by a crusading knight, convicted of tyranny and immeasurable cruelty, pardoned by Isabella but banned from returning to Hispaniola.

Fuck Columbus.

Annual reminder:

By the standards of his time and position, Columbus was a monster. He was noted as a monster by peers who were themselves fine with being members of a colonial occupying force using slave labor and collective punishment.

What you're getting from an LLM is a statistical approximation of what the answer would be to a statistical approximation of the question.

This is why prompt engineering is fake. The prompt (and any input data) is just a suggestion - and helps fool you into thinking that your question was answered.

You cannot defeat transphobic ideology by logical traps or debate or by proving you fucking love science. It's not a logically consistent view of the world, it's a series of justifications for power.
TERFs wrote philosophy papers a few years ago on this, they said they think trans women are men and trans men are men. They just want to create a fortress around womanhood that is exclusive to those deemed to be performing the role adequately.

it's so fucking frustrating to see trans people being the political hot potato; we're perpetual clickbait. you loath us? click. we have a Diversity Win? click. we dare to fucking breath? click.

they don't care about who we are, they just care about everyone having opinions (hating) us.
POLITICO competitor NOTUS posted a story this morning suggesting Rep. Sarah McBride is giving Democrats cover to retreat on trans rights.

The piece sparked backlash at McBride.

But NOTUS has since rewritten it multiple times, changing the takeaway without issuing a correction.

Important. Either Trump is so far gone mentally he doesn’t know what he’s doing, or people are acting in his name without his knowledge. This was an order with enormous implications, and the President of the United States says he didn’t do it.

Correct, in that - this sounds insane, but its where we are - the middle-aged broligarchs need AI to cross the Singularity line soon or else they’ll have to admit they’re really, actually, going to die.
Rapture of the Nerds is still a death cult, they just pretend their internet history is the same thing as their consciousness.

It can't. But, what DOGE accidentally revealed about themselves in the process is fascinating. 🧵

Doing some research on a new article about burnout, and one of the things I keep seeing is that many sources place burnout as a unique work phenomenon. It's not really taking into account that you can burnout from other things like...constant states of vigilance. It's not just your occupation.
