Early this year I had the opportunity to work with my colleague Jennifer Barros and our collaborators at Taboa cave in Brazil! While we monitored a colony of Natalus we were able to see other incredible 🦇 species such as Platyrrhinus lineatus! For more information please check batcon.org

Conservation should never be done in isolation. Community based, and community led initiatives are key. This is from a recent community workshop in Fikirini, #Kenya 🦇

Sorry, completely missed this. No, this is a different cave - while it used to support Hildegarde’s tomb bat, the level of disturbance and construction above the cave has prompted them to abandon it. We found very few bats during this survey.

Part of the continued emergence of bats from St Clair cave in Jamaica. There are an estimated 2 million #bats using this cave - 10 different species. An incredible sight. 🦇 #Jamaica

Used to be. Sadly this is one of the historic Hildegarde’s roosts that has now been abandoned due to the level of development and disturbance above it.

On Tuesday we’re releasing our final 🦇 videos, focusing on our work in #Kenya. Before then I’m going to highlight some photos from that project. Here’s @mgambarios.bsky.social surveying one of the coral caves.

Back to 🦇 content - this is the endangered Fijian free-tailed bat. There is only one known maternity roost for this species. We’ve just released a video on how we worked with local partners and communities to save this species from extinction: vimeo.com/1038668450

Will get back to posting photos of bats later wanted to recognise the partnerships needed to achieve effective #conservation. This is just some of the #Fiji team working to save the Fijian free-tailed bat 🦇

Cameroon leaf-nosed bat (Doryrhina camerunensis) from Nyungwe National Park - this was the first time this data deficient species had been detected in #Rwanda 🦇

Not sure about anyone else, but I’m feeling as full as this common vampire #bat today (note that this is a very old photo - always wear gloves!). 🦇

Flashback to when I was lucky enough to catch the wrinkle-faced #bat in #Mexico. This species primarily feeds on soft fruit. This face sums up my mood during an early morning call 🦇
