White Dwarf 126, a classic that featured Space Marine, Space Hulk, & Marieburg for WFRP

The cover is by artist Colin Sullivan and was used, along with some more of his art, in the GW release of RuneQuest. Sullivan's work also graced the covers of the Way of the Tiger gamebooks

Ingrid Bergman's 1948 performance as Joan of Arc featured several relevant hair styles!

Interestingly, an early Warhammer character, the vampire Geneiveve from Drachenfels, was illustrated by Martin Mckenna with more than a hint of Bergman's Joan! 4/

Brooks became an iconic representation of the flapper era and she was famed for her dramatic bob haircut. Jes Goodwin took inspiration from her style, along with imagery of Joan of Arc, when developing the 1997 Sisters of Battle range. 3/

Louise Brooks starred in many German & Hollywood silent films in the 1920s & 30s. Perhaps her most famous feature was Pandora’s Box, the story of a young woman whose easy virtue leads to considerable trouble for those around her. 2/

The design of the Sisters of Battle owes something to a silent film legend!

In a 2001 art book of Jes Goodwin’s concept work, Andy Chambers confirms that a key inspiration for SoB was actor Louise Brooks. 1/

Many of the amazing artworks created for early Warhammer featured the same characters that you could buy from Citadel Miniatures.

This John Blanche troll is Shakined Bone Bender & you could find him as a C20 Troll sculpted by Alan & Michael Perry. Tony Ackland also drew him for a White Dwarf ad!

Rounding out some recent underwhelming viewing I watched Neill Blomkamp’s techno-horror Demonic.

Despite hints of cool ideas I was sad to see it miss every beat, in every way.

Plus, it features the worst bungling of Chekov’s-Paramilitary-Exorcist-Navy-Seals I’ve ever witnessed!
