CripShip: A revolt against #AI, where #Disability saves society from big tech: art.josephwilk.net/projects/cri...

A tabletop roleplaying game where play teaches breaking LLMs in the real world. Inspired by disabled people destroying systems of power & building new worlds from disabled imagination.
The cover image  shows a large sphere looming above a small silhouette of a person, looking upwards. The sphere looks like a magic eight ball, with a circle eye like recess with a triangle with focus directed at the person. The sphere is connected to the walls around it with tube like pipes. One tube is pointing downwards and is leaking, bright, hyper saturated, toxic looking goop. A person reading the gameplay basics. The page is bright, glitchy and has an active wheelchair symbol with a backpack, space helmet and radar. On the other page their is a poster reading "resist the AI extraction machine" Example case file for the game. Two pieces of paper in a manilla file. On one there is a photo of text written on a wall saying 'punch today in the face'. The other has cases details which mention 'find what an AI thinks its good at and disprove it'. A list of AI challenges on cards are shown. Each one contains a goal to achieve with an LLM, which highlights a problematic aspect of LLMs.

The research does not mention the LLM tool used & risks or error rates are not examined. (asabiopreport.substack.com/p/a-multidis...)

The reference to "our models" imply it's "Informed Solutions" own LLM. Which I assume must need to be certified?

Is there any transparency of the LLM?

I'm looking at the UK Medicines Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency use of #AI.

They have 2 AI tools & one (GMP) uses an LLM (fallback if visual NN fails).

They also state
"most advanced LLMs cannot be relied on to generate accurate information consistently"

Any suggestion which LLM they use?

Is there any evidence or research on datacentres having economic benefits? Specifically for AI they appear like giant funnels flowing capital to US companies, forming irreversible dependencies on tax shy BigTech while destroying workers jobs and rights.
New AI deal could rapidly boost UK economy, says Microsoft boss.
Microsoft says its new $30bn (£22bn) investment in the UK's AI sector - its largest outside of the US - should significantly boost Britain's economy in the next few years.

As Microsoft’s emissions jump 30% Microsoft’s CEO says AIs intense energy usage is worth it for the “potential benefits” in healthcare, public services, and business productivity. Also for picking his outfit.

Imaginary benefits bought with real harms.
Microsoft’s emissions jump almost 30% as it races to meet AI demand He acknowledged that its energy consumption remains "very high" but argued that its potential benefits, especially in the fields of healthcare, public services, and business productivity, were worthwhile.

I will be in Linz all week for Ars Electronica. Very happy to meet and chat, always interested in new collaborations. Most of my upcoming work is around resisting AI, corrupting LLMs, disabled fantasy and TTRPGs/games as forms of advocacy & resistance

The most concrete action you can take in Resisting AI is protesting the building of new data centres. The harm is clear
“The Greater London Authority has told developers that new housing projects in West London could be banned till 2035, because data centers have taken all the electricity capacity.”

Accidentally came across the DuckDuckGo easter egg when you search for "hydra". I miss the silly internet.
Two DuckDuckGo search boxes. The first has the word duck and an image of a cartoon duck with a bowtie. The second search has the word hydra and a duck with many heads, just the one bowtie.

Happy to help provide some words if a random fan would be helpful. I'm a massive fan of Brindlewood and any carved from Brindlewood game.

Wildsea. It’s not set in a dystopian future, or on the cusp. Human empires failed & nature came back and built a better world. My definition: play starts in a world where the big problems of our time have been fixed. It’s not about building better futures through play but playing in them now.

I would vote for one with CHEF one it. It’s very tempting, I can see that first game session and the joy of that hat. Since it’s silly and I have no idea how expensive those hats would be I would pluck £10-15 out of the air. I guess similar to custom dice or gm screens.

Odd, I did not have an issue with more than one no vote selected. Just picked the ones I knew and left most "No Vote"

"The game uses roleplay as an empathetic and critical tool, providing players with a means to comprehend and engage with the lived experiences of communities and people who are too often marginalized and undervalued, but also to dissect the technological systems that oppress them."

Happy to announce that our role-playing game “CripShip: Disability saves society from BigTech” has won an honorary mention at this year's Prix Ars Electronica awards in the Artificial Life and Intelligence category.

Text reads: Prix Ars Electronica 2025 Honorary Mention. Title reads CripShip: Disability saves society from BigTech. Background image is a bright and glitchy active wheelchair with a backpack and radar. Text reads: “CripShip provides us with a palpable demonstration that the world is better when it's inclusive. It facilitates players in envisioning and therefore creating the futures we want. CripShip is play as activism.”

I would say many Role-play games approach disability solely as an accessibility issue and hence try to erase disability rather than embrace it as a culture and identity in game.

Accessibility is good, but even if I can access your game, I’m still a disabled person unable to play a disabled fantasy

Well, well, well, responsible AI you say? Google has been found to under-report its emissions. Since 2019 their emission have risen 1,515%! And when was the biggest jump? Why in the most recent year of course because of AI. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...
Google undercounts its carbon emissions, report finds
Research says Google’s carbon emissions went up by 65% between 2019-2024, not 51% as the tech giant had claimed

Exactly the same feeling 😞. I have a tiny hope the great computer art ingestion will result in a new counterculture in digital art. In the meantime I’ve taken a tangent into writing and game design to escape.

UK government spending at least $1.2B for 12 F-35A jets while in the same breath attempting to push disability people into poverty.
The current w̶e̶l̶f̶a̶r̶e̶ military system is "simply unsustainable".

I've found 5+ GP Triage products that incorporate some vaguely defined use of AI into patient triage and claim they are in use now. i.e Klinik Healthcare claims 300 GP Practices. its CE Marked AI interprets the patient’s symptoms & estimates the urgency of the care needed.

UK GP surgeries are switching to text based triage for booking appointments. (TotalTriage by Accurx). Has anyone investigated if LLMs are involved this pipeline? Do we have protections or visibility if they start to use LLMs?
Accurx does partner with AI companies around transcribing medical notes.

It was a joy speaking directly to creators putting so much love and hard work into tabletop role-playing games at #UKGE. Humans designing, writing & drawing and getting paid for their awesome work.
