As I continue to (slowly) mix in articles critical of YIMBY into my readings, I found this really good critique. It outlines the ways YIMBY relies on private developers, who will only prioritize building to get the highest rents possible because land and housing are investments to them. It also looks at many instances of promised mixed use development which ended up reducing the amount of affordable unitys. It notes that government sees development in capitalist terms to benefit business and investment first in the interest of bringing in tax revenue, and that the tax subsidies to developments for upper income housing are paid for out of all of our tax dollars. Lots of info but it's clear and you can hit the rewind button as needed.

At some point maybe the book Hillbilly Elegy and his reliance on that past for cred fade and he's just asshole lying white boy vance and gets the vote. One big problem is that he hasn't converted his non-white wife to xianity yet which might be required by his base to excuse her very existence.
