Last night was the preview night for the @iam8bit.com 20th Anniversary show. Over 70 artists have work on display. My piece “We Are All Luigi” was inspired by the final scenes of the anti-fascist film “V for Vendetta” and the collective rage we are all feeling right now at the state of… everything.

20 years later, I am once again using pixel art to comment on the state of things, but now I’m using the language of 8-bit games to explore the heroes of the world.

20 years. That’s also how long I have been… well, 8-bit. I started doing pixel art as a response to the Iraq War, using the iconography of video games to explore the real world villains of the world.

@jonmgibson.bsky.social and Amanda White have built something truly incredible and my gratitude to them is bottomless.

I’ve had the absolute pleasure of being asked to participate in numerous collaborations: pixel art installations from SF to Berlin (for @officialgdc.bsky.social and Pictoplasma), holiday promotions, music packaging, and art shows celebrating everything from Nickelodeon to Ninja Turtles.

To be honest, I think well meaning artists should actually apply for these jobs and just completely do things wrong and fuck the AI up lol
