I am a former incarcerated firefighter. I served in a California fire camp from 2009 to 2012.

Misinformation is afire on the internet, so here are facts about the prison firefighter program, all in one place.

A thread.

It’s a snowy Sunday fun day! I’m listening to TTPD & continuing on my first garment of 2025, a beautiful cabled pullover (sweater #29). And because nothing is better than starting a new WIP, I’ve cast-on the Eva cardigan in a beautiful red/brown yarn😍 I love knitting 🧶 What are you working on today?

Twelve-thousand years ago, people in a coastal village in the Levant used stone weights on their spindles to spin thread faster and more evenly—and, archeologists are arguing, in the process they pioneered the basic mechanics that eventually made cart wheels possible. arstechnica.com/science/2024...
Key wheel ideas may have come from weaving
The tools used to make threads could have seeded concepts that eventually led to the wheel.

The thing about blocking a jerk without otherwise engaging them is that an hour later you will have forgotten about them entirely; nothing about them will have stuck in your memory at all. There's not even a blank spot. It's simply as if they never existed in your space at all. It's delightful.
MAGA is going to chase you over here. They'll chase you where ever you go on social media. They can't survive without making you miserable. Why do you think Truth social failed? They need conflict. Don't give it to them and don't engage. Bluesky has amazing block functions. Block them into the void.
The slow trickle of MAGA folks over here underscores how much their experience of online is entirely dependent on people getting mad at them. It also underscores how even they, given the option, would rather not hang out with themselves either.

Science is clear that “every action matters.” That’s why, despite the coming headwind, incl decisions to restrict research & discourage public communication of critical findings, it’s more vital than ever to continue fighting for a resilient future for people + nature.

Just a quick note to those new here, if you think someone's post is worth other people reading, repost it. Liking it does not have the same effect here as on the dead-bird site. There is no algorithm. That's one of the reasons we like it.
