One of the times I went full-throttle, was this moment from PMD Darkness, called "Darkrai's Offer". Ambitious for 2015-me with the lighting, tho now I'm struck by how crude it is compared to my modern skill. ^_^;

But it still captures the shock from the in-game moment, so I'm still happy with it!
In the deep depths of the pit of Dark Crater, the leader of Exploration Team Crimson, a Chimchar named Cia, is in shock and disbelief as his partner and best friend, Snake the Bulbasaur, has seemingly switched over to Darkrai's side! How could his friend take Darkrai's offer to rule the world together? To plunge the world into frozen darkness just to save himself!? This can't be... but... if you've played any version of PMD Explorers, perhaps you know the whole truth of this scenario. The composition has Darkrai, with villainous gesture, showing off how Snake's joined his side. Snake's got an expression of trying to appear friendly to Cia, but his fear is disrupting his attempt at a smile. Both Darkrai & Snake are lit in a way to frame them both in shadow (or at least, that is what I attempted, back when I drew this.). Cia meanwhile, is relegated to the corner of the composition, with only her shocked expression visible.

I get intimidated a lot, about my PMD OCs and their stories. Like it'll never live up to the standard set by anyone else in the fandom. Like a bland shadow of what you've accomplished.

You're all seriously good, and I want so much to feel like I deserve to be one of you.

Apples became to them what grains are to us. The staple. Process them in many ways: as mash, as juice, as a dried flour. Many a base for a satiating meal. Or you could always eat them as-is.

The world opens up when you're freed from the need to devour it all.

Pokémon require an incredibly high caloric intake; Mystery Dungeons exist to provide what the natural world cannot. (Not in the way one'd first assume, Dungeons in my setting don't go for the "ferals" interpretation)

It's the apples. For the most part, people don't know why this is.

Ooh this is a fun one, because I get to try and tightrope the answer! The "what", but not yet the "why"!

So, in my setting, all Pokémon are omnivores. Meat, plants, minerals, all on the table.

I played pre-Super PMD before discovering I COULD be a girl, that it was a legitimate option for me; not just an edgy media joke. The older games ask your gender after it already determined your Nature.

I did some physical sketching, to get my mind off of stress, overwhelmed, & pressure.

Pertaining to the page I filled, wonder if other trans #pmd fans have felt similarly to this.

But hmm, in DX, the Partner AI benefits from the improvements SC made in the other PMD games, so Marshtomp from that playthrough was a never-stepping-on-traps sniper force to be reckoned with!

I like to think of this as his growing confidence in himself making him less sloppy, & more locked in!

Despite how long I've had him as an OC for, I left it a mystery as to why he's alone, and why it was Danny & Razr who he finally decided to befriend after such a lonely life.

It's ongoing brainstorming today, so I don't quite have anything set in mud yet.

So the early characterization I had for him was "Someone who dreams of being a great rescuer, but he's too sloppy to get through a dungeon on his own. He has a big smile when he's with me & Razr because, despite the explosions, he's happiest when he's with us! Because otherwise, he's alone..."

When going on adventures with him & Razr, a combination of the game's Partner AI (old sense of term, not modern "gen" sense) & being the third in the lineup, caused him to often cause misadventures in the dungeons.

Getting separated, or constantly stepping on the two traps that explode!

Marshtomp was the only Pokémon in Peanut Swamp. I'd always hear the first seconds of the area's music when I'd go to recruit him for that day's mission. And I'd feel a pang of melancholy feeling.

"You just live here, all alone, when you're not on a job with us?"

In my old playthrough, (near 20 years ago!), I hadn't recruited anyone else who resides in the Peanut Swamp Friend Area.

Now in OG Rescue Team, the team roster disbands every night in the postgame. So every morning, I'd have to reassemble the team. Go talk to Razr & Marshtomp at their Areas.

Thinkin' about Marshtomp today. One of my very earliest #pmd OCs, Marshtomp the Marshtomp (yes, really).

Originating in my Red Rescue Team playthrough, he's the 3rd team member in Team Emberites, as Danny & Razr's best friend!

He's so pumped to hang out with them because otherwise... he's lonely.
