The important thing I think is that you can not like, even hate some things, but still recognize (and even be willing to fight for) those things’ right to exist.

The cool thing about having real principles is that you can stand proudly by them even if people who you generally consider to the opposite of yourself might happen to nominally agree with them. If you're contrarian for the sake of being contrarian with your opposition, that's just being reactionary
