Day 6 - Joy

Just getting here. That's it.

I worked so hard to get here. I sacrificed a lot and went through so much to make it this far. I almost gave up so many times.

Everything from this point onward is just gravy on the mashed potatoes honestly.

I still cook from her books all the time. Her first one is a family favourite.

I had no idea she was from Alberta!
Jean Paré took her love of cooking and turned it into an empire.
She oversaw the publication of 17,000 kitchen-tested recipes in over 200 cookbooks.
Her Company's Coming cookbooks have sold 30 million copies.
This is her story.

Quite the scathing 'epilogue' that Justice Feasby added to his decision, in response to legislation tabled by Alberta's UCP government just yesterday:

Day 5 - Engagement

It has been a year full of it. Getting to know my new academic home, teaching, networking with others, promoting science to high schoolers... I'm looking forward to the quiet and chance to recharge.

Day 4 - Tough one. For lots of people. I hope those I've watched lose this over the last year (and decade, really) are able to find some.

I just hope I'm able to avoid losing the enjoyment of it in this coming year, and I'm not forced to quit. I know the coming challenges are going to monumental.

He tells the best (historically accurate) stories. They're always my favourite part of Tides.
The first person we meet on Past Lives is Nanaya'ila'i, an Elamite woman from southwestern Iran who was enslaved around 645 BC by the Assyrians in one of their last campaigns of conquest. What can we know about her life? How did she experience the sharp end of empire? www.patreon.com/posts/nanaya...

No. That's not at all what is happening here.

This study is horribly flawed. Many biologists have already spoke out about the statistical errors, biased data (by species), mislabeled data, etc.

Academics really need to get better at science communication and marketing their knowledge.

I didn't know this was a thing. Wtf is that? 😂

Came across this tribute to Anders Ericsson in a paper I'm reading for class.

The paper I'm reading was part of a spirited debate between multiple sides on the issue of dedicated practice and how we learn/achieve expert performance, and in direct opposition to Ericsson's work.

Nice touch.
