I feel the same about student fees in the UK. Labour, LibDem and Conservative governments have said we could not have student grants/zero fees because the nation wouldn't tolerate the tax rise required. Yet the same nation tolerates the far more regressive £60k personal debts for young people.

Wish there was more BlueSky discourse like yours on 'AI'. Refusal to acknowledge there may be ~some~ useful applications undermines valid critique of when it is misapplied or naive.

I think AI talk is one of the few areas on BlueSky where 'echo chamber' criticism has some validity.

"And so whilst we may clap and cheer and the king’s clever constitutional move here, it would generally be preferable for such things to be dealt with by parliament, and not the crown."

It demonstrates the fragility of "vote for us because they are worse" messaging (as Labour have done nationally). Leads to an unstable system that will delight the game theorists.

I misread 'iconic' for 'ironic', which would make more sense.

I once made 'porrange' (an all-in-one breakfast combination of porridge made with orange juice rather than water/milk). I did so largely because I liked the portmanteau. It certainly wasn't for the resulting culinary experience.

I love the charm of the concept, the word, the drawing and the animal all amplifying each other.

The extremity of this proposal cannot be overemphasised.

That Conservatives have even considered it is enough to rule them out as a serious or responsible party.

The timid response from Govt already does damage. Even the tiniest hint that ILR could be retrospectively revoked is hugely problematic.

Possibly something happening in your browser/OS? Here is the same block of text as seen on my Mac / Safari. The x-height is pretty consistent. Note also the larger gap below the dots on the i.
