From the lyrics in Friend's Back having "boku" in hiragana as opposed to kanji like in Tr08 or Tr11, I'm guessing this is the only track that's from the dragon's perspective. I think that alone makes it an important part of the album in characterizing the two protagonists. (19/19)

I also find that chord progression in the chorus very pretty... It feels like a sort of warmth amidst the coldness of winter. And I guess that's in line with what the song is about.

Honorable mention to Higher Than the Sky (Tr06) and Friend's Back (Tr09). (18/19)

Favorite tracks (first listen): Clumsy Communication (Tr03), Bokura wa Daijoubu (Tr11). The former is just a nice comfy song I can see myself being in the mood for a lot. The latter I felt was such a heartwarming and iconic song to close off the album with. (17/19)

I thought the illustrations were warm and cute. I liked that he used his voice like an UTAU.

But above all, I found myself growing fond of the dog and the dragon and hoping they really will be all right.

And that's not an easy thing to pull off with just 45 minutes of music. (16/19)

That said, I still enjoyed this album a lot and came out of it appreciating Chroma's music even more. I think I liked it a bit more than Robot & Human? The booklet as well as the vocal tracks were a really nice addition that drew me into Chroma's worldbuilding. (15/19)

While I felt it didn't fit into the album as well as the other tracks did, that could very well be because I missed "a part of the story." That's where the beauty of different people sharing different experiences with the same music comes in. Chroma's albums lend themselves to that. (14/19)

But its style was very different from what I was expecting at this point of the album. There were drastic shifts in tone within the song as well, which made me even less sure of the scenes it was trying to depict and the emotions it was trying to convey. (13/19)

The one song I didn't really "get" on my first listen was You Are My Hero (Tr10). It's very complete and well-made as a standalone track, and I can see some people liking it (although the heavy hardcore percussion like at 4:01 was a bit too much for me). (12/19)

an ambient? track based on just a few repeated, lingering tones. It was a very unsettling kind of ambient, though, with all these other sounds in the back. Anxiety often takes the form of voices in your head, and I think that's just what this track captures. (11/19)

The biggest goosebumps I got were during Higher Than the Sky (Tr06), when the piano phrase came in at 3:38. I wasn't expecting that at all... and it's an amazing bridge!

Anxiety (Tr07) surprised me as well. It was unlike anything else I'd heard from Chroma... (10/19)

And as for what sounds like heart beating throughout Friend's Back (Tr09), I immediately imagined the dog feeling the dragon's heartbeats with the little context I had!

Putting Chroma's musical storytelling ability aside, there were some other memorable moments throughout my first listen. (9/19)

the dog thinking, then having a bright idea. Race to the Mountain (Tr05) started off with acoustic guitar and bagpipes? which reminded me of the "mountain" part first, but then shifted 15 seconds in to a part that's more like what you'd hear at the starting line of a racing game. (8/19)

Most of the time, you can pretty easily see the reasoning behind them when you listen to the songs themselves. To name just a few examples, Choose the Right Word (Tr04) had these slowdowns leading into bursts of bright instrumentation that made me visualize (7/19)

The second is how good he is with giving us just a synopsis, song titles, and some concept art, and letting the music (and the listener's imagination) paint the rest of the story. The titles in particular are excellent at providing direction for the listeners... (6/19)

but Chroma pulls off the sectioning really well by stepping outside of his comfort zone in terms of genre. He gives wildly different feels to the tracks, sometimes to the point that you forget it's all by a single person. It makes you feel like you're actually following a story. (5/19)

I noticed two things in Robot & Human that were also evident here. First, the existence of pretty clear segments. Here we have a sort of intro (Tr01~02), buildup (Tr03~06), turning point (Tr07~08), climax (Tr09~10), and resolution (Tr11). That might seem obvious for a storytelling album, (4/19)

One day, those heroes fought against each other for what they thought was right. They lost their lives in the end, leaving the two pets without an owner. The album starts there: the dog and the dragon meet, spend time together, open their hearts, and become each other's heroes in the end. (3/19)

The second Chroma album I listened to, of perhaps much more ordinary protagonists in a much smaller setting... but it was just as magical! This album tells a story of a hero's dog and a demon king's dragon. Each of them thought their owner, who raised them with love and care, was a hero. (2/19)

the chorus. It's headbanging material!! Recommended especially if you like punk rock. Kowareta Kuruma (Tr06) might grow on me, too. In terms of tempo, style, and theme, it sounds like one of the slower songs by The Blue Hearts, an immensely popular Japanese rock band from the late 80s. (11/11)

Favorite tracks (first listen): Hashiru! Tooku! Todoku! (Teto ver.) (Tr03), Boku wa Kangaeru no wo Yametai (Tr05)

The latter caught my attention right from the get-go. I love the powerful and slightly unorthodox chord progression in the intro, and that power blasts at full force in (10/11)

But I do have to say her tuning here sounds a bit flatter and more robotic than I would've liked >o< I don't think it's bad and it *does* work for the song, but for now I prefer the original version which I find more expressive. Teto's voice sounds just right for the song! (9/11)

but without getting too serious or gloomy. It's as if the music is trying to heal those emotions a bit, if that makes sense...

Now, the biggest reason I grabbed this album is because I was excited to listen to Hashiru! Tooku! Todoku! sung by my favorite Vocaloid Rin (Tr07). (8/11)
