Republicans are still trying to make a "deal" happen where squishy Democrats pass the CR in exchange for a phony vote on extending ACA subsidies. I wrote my Senators using @resist.bot to say "no deal".

At the behest of our daughter, who is away at school, we dressed up Dakota as a chicken for Halloween. He was not pleased.

Watched Star Trek:TOS "Wink of an Eye" for the first time in decades and realized something new. At the end, Kirk leaves the Scalosians thinking they were doomed to die, instead of offering them the cure McCoy had just developed. What a bitch!

We got a fun new toy for the cats that rolls around on its own so they can hunt it. One of the cats dropped it into his water dish, which he hasn't done with toys since he was a kitten, and now it doesn't work anymore. We only had it two days. We can't have nice things. #caturdayeve

Just watched the John Candy documentary "I Like Me" on Amazon. He died much too young. Got a hit of nostalgia because watching SCTV in my college dorm was the shit. Those clips still crack me up.

What I find most dispiriting about the Ezra Klein podcast with Ta-nehisi Coates is Klein's suggestion that we have to accomodate people's bigoted beliefs without any examination of how those beliefs are promulgated. Here is one of several responses from Coates that stands out for me.

As an inidcator of where we are right now, I have no idea if this is satire. Poe's Law at work.

I ordered the delicious Tan Tan Ramen at Tonton in SF tonight. When the server brought it she said to let her know if it was too spicy. She came back after a little while to again ask if it was too spicy. Well, maybe it was but I wasn't going to admit it. 3 hours later and my lips are still burning.
