This photo shows the text: I recently wrote about The Constitution of the Sea The Constitution of the Sea To be permeable, variable and fractal in boundaries To complex, diverse and amalgamated To be elemental To be mutable, dynamic and responsive To maintain character To support, to encompass and replenish To be vast and powerful, deep and calm To allow the truth of inconsistency Across scale and across time, to constitute. This photo shows the text: To float in the sea's saltiness is to know its history of unending becoming with the shore; the touch of its water on one's skin is the touch of millennia of deposition and attrition, of solidifying sand dunes and collapsing cliffs. This photo shows the text: How stifling to try to tame water with names, to co-opt it as a border, to blind ourselves to its magnificent wildness. There is a wonderful complexity to the interconnection between rain dripping from a leaf in the heart of Central Europe and the crashing waves in the Southern Ocean. To embrace it is to have a glimpse of true wonder.
