Good morning from Scout who is totally not chewing on the tree and completely innocent of even contemplating such a thing.

Vibe today on this very cold morning is #Caturday on a full moon Thursday.

❤️

Our Scout looks very much like your Mr. Biffles and has also claimed the scraps of tissue paper used to wrap Christmas tree ornaments. This is her second Christmas and it is her favorite time of year because of the tissue paper playtime opportunities.

Wishing everyone a peaceful Caturday night — with some added dog joy. Séamus the ginger prince and old girl Dottie the frosty Boston showing us all that kindness is easily shared. Just like dog beds under the winter solstice / christmas tree.

For Black Friday I am curled up in pjs with our dogs and cats snoozing nearby (or in the case of Bowie, on me) and watching every adaptation of a Jane Austen novel and at least two film adaptations of Little Women.

Not spending one now-cancelled penny.

Here’s my bad food take, Thanksgiving edition. That pasty bread mush for “stuffing” is bad.

If your dressing is not made from cornbread & not filled with sage sausage, cranberries, mandarin orange slices, celery & onion…what are you even eating for breakfast on Fri, Sat & Sun after the big meal?

Séamus enjoying his #Caturday night basking in the warm glow of Christmas tree lights and feeling very safe and cozy in the dogs’ bed. We love him so much and he knows it.

Day 2. Séamus is up in the new faux tree.

Last year, Séamus bent or broke too many branches of the faux tree we’d had for over 10 years.

But really — look at that cute orange boy kitten in the Christmas tree! Look. At. That. Face. Who can be mad about kitten shenanigans in the tree?

My Wife took only a few and I think she captured the best one (she’s taller than me and I think that helped :)

Thank you. Because every single photo means someone went outside to stare up into the sky looking for some awe, some child-at-heart wonder.

Here are many of the photos of the moment by moment aurora over my little backyard in Columbus, Ohio, near midnight on 11/11.

From my backyard in Columbus, Ohio, just before midnight. And you could see so much with (sleepy) eyes.

I woke up and it was the red sky just before midnight that made me go outside in pjs. This is over our backyard in Columbus, Ohio!

In all my years of living in Columbus, Ohio, I’ve never seen the Northern Lights like this — just amazed looking at a few moments when I happened to wake up and catch the #aurora with a clearing sky over our backyard.
November 12, 2025 at 5:54 AM
I did remember to put the iPhone / camera down and just stand there in my pjs to take in the wonder. But here are more photos of the Northern lights over Columbus, Ohio.

Just before midnight, right in our Columbus, Ohio, backyard—and you could see the aurora borealis with your sleepy eyes. I’m usually distressed to wake up mid-sleep. Not tonight. #aurora

Hey Spotify — it’s easy to refuse to platform ICE. Just say no to the blood money for advertising.

This month marks one year since I started nurturing a relationship with our neighborhood’s little murder of crows. One crow, who I’ve named Stella, seems to be the scout who comes cawing to see if I’ll come outside with peanuts and sometimes blueberries. Then the other 2 or 3 show up.

I’m in a similar situation…

Down Cemetery Road is magnificent—how could it not be with The Magnificent Emma Thompson.

I am rewinding scenes with her because my eyes have to drink her all in again and again. Dear Goddess.

Happy Halloween 🎃

It’s been a rough several months personally and that’s without the fascist demolition of our democracy… so our decoration vibe is “relaxed classic” this year. Found the box of bones and whatnot just this week.

Seriously—skeleton is clearly chillin.

Tonight was Trick or Treat in Columbus, Ohio. It rained all day and is still blustery outside. But we did get a bit of clearing and there was even a rather spooky moon for the kids of all ages.
