A fascinating detail in the transition of institutions in the Irish Free State was pointed out to me at an event in the Supreme Court conference room in 2019: the transition from Lord Chief Justice to Príomh-Bhreitheamh. (The photo has popped up in my FB memories.)

We are delighted to announce that all 11 chapters of An Caighdeán Oifigiúil have been translated.

We hope that it will be useful to both language learners and those who are simply interested in having a reference tool.

A delight. Sorry I missed it in the cinema. Beautifully composed, lyrical, and epic. Joel Edgerton will break your heart gently.

Am reviewing Palestine 36 for History Ireland. You should see it if you can- a powerful depiction of the brutality of colonialism. But I also thought of this article afterwards.

The racial logic behind Palestine's partition
Partition was rarely endorsed as a solution to settler colonialism. But Europe's racialization of Jews made Zionism different from other enterprises.

I live a short walk from Assassination Custard and have only been once. Friends hired it for the evening and had a tasting menu type evening. It was all delicious vegetarian courses except for one, lambs heart sautéed in garlic and butter, which was so good, I still tell people about years later.
I went to Assassination Custard, the most precisely chaotic and singularly wonderful restaurant in Dublin, and had a very, very nice time.

I was very proud to introduce the role of records and archives as active agents for #TransitionalJustice at the 4th International #CulturalPropertyProtection course at the UN Training School Ireland. The paper's main case study was #Syria and the records exposing the brutality of the Assad regime.

A friend told me this evening about her contributions to restore a C19th chapel in France. You make a donation to adopt a star on the ceiling and dedicate it to someone. So I have adopted a star and dedicated it in memory of Mary, my sister, a star who shone brightly for too brief a time.

My experience of the Dublin/Wexford route this year has been abysmal. I use it weekly and every week there are delays/no-shows. An online closed return ticket to Enniscorthy is €34 but an open monthly return purchased on the bus is €26! The buses are also v old. 😢

Getting ready for my Australia trip. Ireland and Australia have a reciprocal health care agreement for public hospitals. Cover is provided for the duration of the visitor’s approved stay in Australia. A current Irish passport or an EHIC issued in Ireland is sufficient evidence of eligibility.

The clarity, eloquence and dignity in this statement shows up so much of our public discourse on racism on this side of the Atlantic.
The dream of every Muslim is simply to be treated the same as any other New Yorker.

And yet, for too long, we have been told to ask for less than that, and endure hatred and bigotry in the shadows.

No more.

Awadhi biryani (Indian) and Shirazi salad (Persian). The biryani was new to me. Unlike other biryanis that I've made, the rice is cooked separately with various processes, then brought together in layers with the cooked marinaded lamb (beef here, no lamb in the supermarket). Delicious!
