Thought the reflective sand would be the hardest part but it was actually the gradient of yellows into blues, which just goes green on me. I'm not sure how to get around that. Sunsets seem to go from yellow/orange to magenta, then blue, no green involved.
Ah well.

Venus/Aphrodite born as the sun sets.
Gouache on cheap wood.

This is the only time wood has betrayed me. I love it for being absorbent but the grains are so textured that it was hell trying to do fine details.

The only part I'm pleased with is the ocean waves.

This is my second time attempting to paint a portrait with gauche and watercolours. I'm not great with traditional mediums so it was a fun challenge and I'm pleased with the result! It's not on the level of Cabanel but it's not terrible haha

My first attempt at needle felting. I made this creepy little sleep fairy. She wards off nightmares.

I've been unwell lately and haven't been doing a lot of art nor had the energy for social media. But, now I'm getting back into the swing of life so I'll post more of my crafts from now on

A scrappy angst painting depicting betrayal.

Was going to keep it to myself but I'm sure there's plenty of people out there who've felt the same pain. This art made me feel better, maybe it'll bring some peace to someone else.

It took a billion years but I've finished writing my first article.

This is part of a project to tell Australian stories. So many folks have had wild lives or have fascinating hobbies. I like to hear the stories and thought others would, too.

An uncommon find in my back yard. Rescued him from the mouth of my cat and transferred him somewhere safe. Snapped a quick photo along the way 👍🏻

Small frog with a pointed nose and bulbous black eyes. It's skin is pale brown with black vertical stripes. It's maybe 5-6cm long and 3cm wide. While it is described as common, it's rare to find much wildlife in your average urban backyard unless you live next door to parklands. Stray cats and invasive species tend to dominate in these areas. Google result showing the species is a Striped Marsh Frog native to coastal Eastern Australia. The invasive & poisonous cane toad.
Since they were introduced to Queensland in 1935 (to control cane beetle populations) they have become a pest. They have few natural predators, breed quickly, and are well adapted to the climate.

A young cane toad; varied shades of brown, skin speckled with small lumps, and bulbous venom glands on their backs behind their bulging eyes. While that description sounds hideous, I think they're kind of cute. This one is enjoying the damp and cool conditions of the spring rain. They should be captured and culled, due to their devastating impact on the local wildlife (such as green tree frogs.) Their poison can also be harmful to domesticated animals like cats & dogs. While I don't have it in me to cull animals, it is important to protect the local species. It was believed they had no natural predators in Queensland, however the crafty crows are adept at flipping cane toads onto their backs and safely eating them without getting a dose of poison from those glands on its back. An alternate angle showing a bit more of the face and belly. You can see the belly is a lighter brown and doesn't have the lumps that cover its back and limbs.
