Gift from the universe, in daylight (ok, I found amazing Amish-style quilt at the local quilt guild garage sale—it was on the UFO rack, but is not in any way unfinished). $8 a pound! #craftiverse #quilts
Amish-style bars quilt with a slate blue outer border and black inner borders, with shades of blues, purples, reds, grays, and pinks in the horizontal bars. Delightfully wonky, beautifully hand-quilted all over, with floral motifs stitched into the blue borders.

Things I got to see in San Francisco yesterday: the Pavia Tapestries.
The Pavia tapestries, woven in Brussels between 1525 and 1531. In this section, the French guy standing on the left is about to lose his head to the mounted knight on the right. In this bit, two women, one delightfully old and craggy, one younger with curly hair, are exiting, stage right, from a chaotic battle scene. The older lady is carrying a pike and is wearing a terrific red hat (I want this hat). The Pavia tapestries, woven in Brussels between 1525 and 1531. In this scene, a family (?) of camp followers is coming in to probably loot the battlefield. The man striding to the left had a brace of dead chickens hanging down his back (looting the dead is hungry work). The boy to his right seems somewhat dubious about the whole thing, while the woman just ahead of him seems somewhat grimly determined. A large pike bisects this tableau diagonally—the motion captured here is incredible. The Pavia tapestries, woven in Brussels between 1525 and 1531. In this larger segment, troops of the Holy Roman emperor, Charles V, marr around one of the nobles on horseback.
