AUKUS would pay for centuries of CSIRO funding, inflation notwithstanding. People really don't appreciate how trivial the science budget is, and especially how trivial funding for research bodies is.

Should be criminal. Not just for not considering chick season, but taking nesting trees when there is a reasonable alternative.

I remember when we used to have pretty good internal biosecurity and quarantine controls - eg fruit fly and tick gates.
Now its all to hard - the ‘public good’ is no longer worthy of funding. Now we have varroa mites, fire ants, fruit fly, feral deer and the rest, just carrying on unimpeded. 😡
