Taken the lawnmower way out to the Pilot Path, Dungeness today for its annual mow

This is to help the Autumn Ladies Tresses as there are no sheep or goats to do the munching

Moved a Large Conehead out the way - which is my first of the year

It's been pointed out that this one from Saturday's moth morning at Grosvenor & Hilbert Park is Clancy's Rustic, a migrant first recorded in the UK in 2002 and not illustrated in the first edition of the Field Guide to the Moths of GB & Ireland

On probably the last hot (25'C), calm & sunny day of the year, 2♂️Scarce Blue-tailed Damselflies on territory at Sandwich Bay beating last year's final sighting on 3rd Sept. Amazing how such fragile creatures have survived the recent storms & cool evenings. @britishdragonflies.bsky.social #KentNature

A great morning on today's field meeting at Grain Coastal Park. Dwarf Eelgrass was a highlight of the intertidal. Sea-slaters Ligia oceanica & the shell of a Sea-potato (the sea urchin Echinocardium cordatum) were among other records. #KentNature #marinelife #intertidal #seagrass
Three people on a muddy shoreline. The middle person is bending over to examine something near his feet. Fine green stems and leaves of Dwarf Eelgrass. A woodlouse-like Sea-slater amongst pebbles and seashells. The white, heart-shaped shell of a sea urchin, held in a hand.

Last weekend's field meeting was at No Man's Orchard (chartham-pc.gov.uk/no-mans-orch...), a community orchard near Canterbury. Lots of Common Darter dragonflies, and other insects including a Vernal Shieldbug. Plus excellent apple cake, courtesy of one of the orchard volunteer managers! #kentnature
A view of an orchard, surrounded by woodland. A dragonfly with an orange abdomen, sitting on a log. A brownish shieldbug, seen in semi-side view, with its head upper right. The pronotum has a narrow white margin.

The Dungeness wider recording area total has crept up by two new birds in August to 222

They were an Icterine Warbler and a Zitting Cisticola (Fan-tailed Warbler) which was also new for Dungeness

In comparison to the last 5 years this is about 5 species more at this time of the year
