I don't really post post, but I repost things that make me laugh or happy because BlueSky needs more of that.
Is it possible they rejected you because they don't know how to improve on this?

Not just judgement. Poverty.

Yup. I am trying to get some traction around the idea of precinct captains. Seems like there were a few places that got excited about that back in 2016 or so but I am not sure where it stands now.

Our local elections are non-partisan, which makes figuring out who to vote for a maddening game of trying to piece together info from your kids' preschool teacher's former's students' boyfriend (on paper, they are all for jobs and against crime).

I don't live in the district = ).

And I don't expect to just show up and set the agenda. But I think there is a risk the filing deadlines will pass without getting to have a serious conversation about candidate recruitment.

I suspect I might be the only one who sees the county race as more important.
December 6, 2025 at 4:53 PM
Just to give an example, my county has two big races in 2026...a county board of supervisors race that could flip control away from Republicans, and a State Assembly race that will determine how many jobs for Democratic staffers there are in the county but has no chance of flipping anything.

And if any of those people felt comfortable sharing more about their experiences, or if there was somewhere else to trade notes with people that was less open-internet, that'd be pretty cool.

And BlueSky probably isn't the place to post a bunch about it. But I also think of BlueSky as the place with other people trying to figure out similar things.
December 6, 2025 at 4:10 PM
My county at least is not just a vacuum where they were just waiting for someone to show up. There are inner circles for all of our elected officials, old families, various splits and rivalries. And me.

Some of it is just like, committee & party structure, and dealing with people who love Roberts Rules or engage in politics via invites and events (which is completely foreign to me as a BlueSky type). Trying to have an impact without stepping on toes.
December 6, 2025 at 3:58 PM
But I would love to connect with other people trying to figure it all out.

I am trying this - not really looking to take over, just help and maybe have some influence - and I am finding the advice to be both true and not true. Yes they are grateful to have me, but it is also difficult and frustrating in ways that contradict the whole "one easy trick" thing.

I know people's time is limited and there is a lot of value in reading the version of the story written by the famous author that's a formative work for how we understand that era - but if you can read both, it is incredibly interesting to read both.

Do you know about Whose Names are Unknown? (Same basic story, but written by the actually-from-Oklahamq woman whose notes Steinbeck used as inspiration)
November 16, 2025 at 7:06 PM
I don't want to ask too many questions on the open internet, but just for example, "How much money and resources for campaigns is it normal for a Central Committee to have?" would be helpful information to be able to find somewhere that is tricky to get just from your own local people.

It actually tracks really closely with the difference between the white and Hispanic vote for Trump. So maybe one way to read it is that most people who have strong opinions about trans inclusion in sports are just taking their cues from Trump.
