Former headteacher offering reflective supervision for school leaders that is normative, formative, and supportive (www.mind-your-head.net).

Senior Education Lead for SSAT focusing on attendance, behaviour, headship development, and student leadership.
Books 21-30 of my 100 for 2025 challenge/resolution.

Pick of the bunch was Muriel Spark's The Driver's Seat.

Quite simply, I've never read a novella like it. Deeply moving, disturbing, confusing, and powerful. I'm still trying hard to process it and suspect that I will be for a long while.

Fittingly, book 7 of 100 for 2025.

The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World - Betting Hughes - 2024

A revelation given my rather limited knowledge of ancient history. Beautifully put together as more than simply a history.

Book 6 of my 100 for 2025 resolution.

James Barr - A Line in the Sand - 2011

An episode from modern history that I knew very little about. And, as the author's final line concludes, "a tale from which neither country emerges with much credit". But fascinating nonetheless.

Book 5 of 100

A Gentleman in Moscow - Amor Towles - 2016

What a delightful gem. Made me laugh and weep in equal measure.

4th of a planned 100 books for 2025, and the 1st of 20 in French.

Albert Camus - L'Etranger - 1942

My first novel read in French.

My umpteenth cake bake of the festive season (I should probably cut back on these in the new year).

And a new recipe, a very classic ginger cake. With fresh ginger, golden syrup and treacle.

Mmmmmm. Maybe one more slice, methinks.

Daisy Christodoulou - I can't stop thinking about VAR - 2024

Book 3 of my 100 target for 2025 completed. The challenges of complexity in sport, and especially football, laid bare. And then some intriguing suggestions about how/whether we might attempt to tackle (pun intended) these.

Orbital - Samantha Harvey - 2024 Booker Prize Winner.

A very powerful read at the ending of one man-made time marker and the beginning of another. Intelligently imagined and beautifully constructed in equal measure. Although brief, it is as full as a day with 16 sunrises and 16 sunsets.

Reveillon meal, preceded by a 'gin fizz'. Bonne année à tous.

Murakami - The City and its Uncertain Walls - 2024.

If you're a Murakami fan, and I am, you'll enjoy this. Can't say that I loved it as well as some of his others, but still snaffled it up in a little over two days.

Over halfway through my 'in order' reading of all of the George Smiley novels.

Each one different (in a good way), but this is an incredibly good read. Two-thirds of the way through and loving it.

My stepson is an Arsenal fan. This is his most cherished item when he's back from uni.

I'm not convinced there's an outcome 3, my friend. :)

If history and/or the Tour de France get your pulse racing, this is wonderful.

70 pages to go, and I'm already mourning the moment I finish.

Thank you, @nedboulting.bsky.social, for your bloody-mindedness in telling a tale that didn't need to be told but for which the world is richer.

The nicest thing on my website, which is full of nice things.

This is why I started providing reflective supervision.

I'm currently working with over 50 people, individually or in groups, in-person or online.

Get in touch if you'd like to know more.

Thank you for this. I wonder whether you nail the complexity of the task in your opening.

"Culture is often cited as the silver bullet of all things teacher development."

The challenge is that we think of culture in the sense of the third definition but then try to cover the first two. Impossible.

It's ridiculous what can make you happy. My day today has been lifted beyond belief by the return of these to the supermarket shelves.

Picked this book up yesterday. Finding it fascinating (which is not to say uncritically) in relation to school leadership.

Me too. It's been on my shelf for a while, waiting for the right time to push itself forward to the front of the queue.

If you're looking beyond literature, I loved these two recently. Especially The Visionaries.

One more book for the summer and from the hammock. Unless, of course, the good weather can hang on, or I can read it very quickly.

And, up next for me, is this one. Been waiting for it to arrive in paperback. Can't wait to get stuck into it tomorrow.

Two books that have kept me occupied, entertained, and enthralled (for very different reasons) this summer.

If you like Murakami (whose new one drops this autumn), you'll enjoy 'Butter'.
