The "National Defense Area" trespass arrests really are Operation Lone Star, federal edition. These kinds of arrests with lack of actual knowledge of any trespass happened in Texas' Operation Lone Star, too 👇

DHS Acting General Counsel - & the author of yesterday's extremely recalcitrant declaration in Mr. Abrego Garcia's case - just left Texas AG Paxton's office, where he was an executive staff member 👇

At the TX AG's office, argued for ending DACA

Knew this part of the Trump administration's outrageous demand letter to Harvard sounded familiar

Like US army here, Texas claimed its National Guard troops under Operation Lone Star weren't arresting migrants, just supporting.

Clear that despite that claim, Nat'l Guard directly involved in arrests. Examples here from Texas' own arrest reports: Nat'l Guard "apprehended" migrants 👇👇

Missing from this bio: John Bash was also instrumental to implementing Trump's family separation policy, as U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Texas

Extremely troubling. The Texas AG's website lists DOB and license plate numbers as mandatorily confidential:

& at odds w Mayor Whitmire's claim that Houston wouldn't work w ICE on immigration enforcement

Also, Texas has been planning for this since 2021! #txlege

More Q&As now - curious about this statement, including the passive voice. Who exactly is "expecting" "significant near-term changes" to "the federal workforce"?

Christianity is crystal clear: “Which is the greatest commandment? Love the Lord your God. And the second is like it- love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

And also defines neighbor- “the one who had mercy”

(I prefer the NIV translation 🙂)

Hi @mattyglesias.bsky.social @daralind.bsky.social – really alarmed by mainstreaming of legally fringe “invasion” theory on this pod. It's rooted in white supremacist "great replacement" conspiracy theory

"Invasion" rejected by courts, & rhetoric has fueled violence inc 2019 El Paso shooting. 🧵:

New filing in US SB4 lawsuit against Texas (over state immigration enforcement law)

Informs the 5th Circuit of Trump's Jan 20 proclamation "Guaranteeing States Protection Against Invasion" & says DOJ is "assessing the effect of the order on this case"

Ummmm this white supremacist screed is from the person who's the "White House liaison for DOJ"?!?! Written three weeks ago...

And here’s Texas Gov Abbott’s request today that Trump invoke the legal theory of an immigration “invasion” - a theory rooted in white supremacist great replacement idea.

Actually, seems more likely someone *told* Stephen Miller his detention camps line wasn't playing well

Apparently the Trump team has decided to avoid "camps" bc "some people think it makes us look like Nazis"

Interesting choice to lead DOJ Office of Legal Policy

More efforts to move the Overton window on birthright citizenship, from 20 state AGs 👇👇

Again, birthright citizenship is constitutionally required, it prevents creation of a permanently unequal class, & has strong public support. So *should be* losing battle
