Stranger Things 5 - Vol. 1

A very promising first half of the season! We jump straight into the action with all of the characters working together from the start. Much like S2 we have some really fun new pairings like Robin/Will, Nancy/Mike, and Steve/Jonathan. Plus Holly with a spoilery character.

Stranger Things 4

First rewatch since 2022!

Season 4 is incredible. More mature, gruesome, and epic than any previous season. I actually think I like it even more than my first viewing. I remember the Russia plot not quite hitting in 2022, but on a rewatch I think every storyline totally delivers.

First rewatch since 2019 and third viewing!

This season is the most different in the whole series. It's aesthetically bright and more colourful thanks to the Summer setting, as opposed to the Fall in S1&2. It's also way more comedic, sometimes for better and sometimes for worse.

Stranger Things 2

First rewatch since 2017 and third rewatch! Same as Season 1.

Season 2 really gives a lot of time to Will, which is great after he was barely in last season. Fantastic performance. It was also nice that Dustin and Lucas had more to do, and Max was (and still is) a great addition.

Very happy to be rewatching this. Last time I did was in 2017. 8 years later I’m back for my third watch of Season 1.

It’s basically perfect. The whole cast is on point. Hopper’s story especially stands out. Steve’s redemption arc is still peak. Love the VHS style Blu-ray case too!

Erica also gets a wonderful moment to shine in Ep 3, as does Will in Ep 4. Can't wait to see what other excitement is still to come.

Final note: I don't love the new Vecna design compared to last season, but I understand why he looks like that as he's more built for battle now. Hope it grows on me!

I'm not the biggest fan of Dustin this season but I understand why he's so angry at everything. I trust the writers to be going somewhere with it and get us the old Dustin/Steve duo back.

I also gotta praise the action. Insane sequence in Ep 4. Also very excited about the big reveals at the end.

Season 4 is probably my favourite yet. Every storyline hits, so many killer performances, and it has the best action and horror we’ve seen thanks to constant badass moments (especially from Nancy and Hopper) and chilling visuals. I’m so excited to see how they try to top this in S5! I can’t wait!

The only character I question the writing of is Jonathan. He’s got the least to do here which was a shame. Hoping they can make up for that in S5.

A major shoutout has to go the editors too. The momentum of each episode keeps you glued to the screen, and the way they weave in music is masterful.

Some of the best performances in the series are from S4, particularly Sadie Sink as Max. Alongside Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas, they deliver the most emotional scenes, especially in the finale. Had me in tears both times I watched.

Joseph Quinn is also great as Eddie. Yet another great new addition.

That’s incredibly weird and unnecessary to exclude that category. Like I don’t care about the esports categories but I’d still report on them of it was my job to report on the nominations.

Billy is incredible this season. Dacre Montgomery did a good job in S2 but he really impresses here. Robin is a great addition to the show as well. The writers are experts at creating lovable characters.

S3 is a fun Summer vacation season and I love it for that, but I'm also glad it was a one-off.

S3 is probably my least favourite but I still love it! Some characters like Hopper and Lucas can feel reduced to comic relief and often feel like they act out of character, but others like Nancy, Jonathan, Will, Mike, and El have some great development. It's a mixed bag but still mostly great!

You can also noticeably see the budget go up here. Way more effects shots with way more monsters (love the homage to Aliens) and I know the show only looks better as it goes on.

I think Season 1 is a more “perfect” season, but I like the characters so much more in Season 2 that I think I prefer it!

I love how we got new dynamics for almost every character compared to last season. Mike/Will, Dustin/Steve, Lucas/Max, Hopper/Eleven, Joyce/Bob. The only status quo pairing was Nancy/Jonathan. I remember this being something they keep playing with into future seasons and it’s so much fun.
