My cousin was born with Down syndrome and even though he was older than me, we always protected him from cruel people.

He loved playing Nintendo with us and anytime we’d come over, he had Mario world ready. He’s a lot older now and his sisters now but He still plays his Nintendo.

I will fight anyone who makes fun of anyone with Down syndrome. Let alone anyone who mistreats them. In front of me or not.

A video came across my feed of teenagers laughing at someone with Down syndrome and it made my blood boil.

Why? because the relationship stops feeling mutual. It becomes about managing their fears instead of sharing something real.

Eventually, their anxiety takes up all the space, and most people simply don't have the patience to live inside someone else's worry.

Over time, you stop knowing whether you genuinely like the person or you're just reacting to their need for control. You start to disconnect, little by little, every time their insecurity shows up. And the more it happens, the more you pull away

I learned this throughout my years of being in relationships: when someone tries to control what you do, who you follow, where you go, or how you respond, it slowly kills the connection. People don't like to feel managed because it makes them lose interest. 🧵
