Imagine coming up with a proposal so stupid, so unworkable, so thoughtless, that it makes Robert Jenrick look sane by comparison.

Still reeling from the Stanford report on Brexit. Reduced GDP by up to 8% and investment by as much as 18%. The UK Treasury would have £40 billion more each year if Britain had remained in the EU. Devastating self-immolation.

By the lake on this morning's run. Too cold for me to add a post-run swim in - the water temp I can tolerate, it's just staying warm afterwards that's the trouble. No such worries for Juno the Lab, who you see here doing his usual stick fetching thing. He had icicles on his fur when we got home!

On this morning's long run, checking out parts of the route for December's marathon. As suspected, canal and footpath still officially closed near Dunham Massey. They're going to have to do adjust the route a bit.

Evidence of the last 30-40 years is that, generally, once you start reducing the state’s role in pursuit of efficiency, there is no point at which people will believe “value for money” has been achieved. It just undermines the state’s capacity to deliver (and people’s trust in public institutions).
Oh gosh, another "bonfire of business regulation". As promised by all governments and oppositions for the last 15 years, mysteriously failing to deliver, and with not a shred of interest shown by politicians in why that was. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Almost nobody in the Cons Party or beyond it had noticed that the Shadow Home Secretary with two other frontbenchers and 5 backbenchers tabled a bill in May to deport 3 million people - stripping almost every pensioner, parent or nurse who did not take out citizenship of their right to live here

There is escalation between Washington and blue states like Illinois and California as Trump-backed paramilitaries enter into daily confrontations with people in major American cities and the US government enters a 4th week of shutdown.

Yet people still discuss US global power as if it is 1987.

No sunrise on this morning's run, too cloudy and misty. But the M60 floodlights beyond the lake kinda make up for it.

Almost 900 fewer people have been injured on Welsh roads since the default speed limit was lowered from 30 to 20mph two years ago

Casualties on 20 to 30mph roads between July and September 2024 were the lowest for the three month-period since records began in 1979

A nice sun rising behind Stretford House during my 10 mile run this morning. Taking it easy through the week now in the lead up to Saturday's 50km race on the Suffolk Coastal Path from Lowestoft to Aldeburgh.

August CO2 and methane data at NOAA just dropped.

The 3-year running average for the rate of CO2 growth continues to increase (now at 7.78 ppm per 3 years), and is nearing an all-time high.

Maybe if we all just hope a bit more, I'm sure that will change everything.
