Ingle's great-granddaughter Bryony contacted Research Fellow Cicely Marshall back in 2021 after learning about the new wildflower meadow and the family donated several journals with detailed flower illustrations that they had kept.

For her SRP, history student Lyra has designed a pamphlet showing the different species of wildflower in our meadow, as drawn in the mid-20th century by King’s alum Laurence Mansfield Ingle (KC 1909).

My favourite part of this project, though, has been my conversations with the amazing people behind these presses and hearing the stories they have to tell about their experiences."

kingscollege.bsky.social
I’m studying Cambridge University-based small presses, with a focus on those that are academic-led, so I’ve spent lots of time searching through various libraries to find out how Cambridge small presses present themselves in publication.
kingscollege.bsky.social
The freedom of my project has enabled me to experiment with creative methodologies like narrative research, which involves studying the narratives that individuals, companies and institutions tell about themselves and their communities.

King's student Seren has spent this summer taking part in our Summer Research Programme, mapping the small press landscape in Cambridge.

"As well as engaging with a fascinating topic, I’ve enjoyed this opportunity to explore the academic world from the perspective of a researcher."
