I lived in those communities. Any of us with degrees left like our hair was on fire. We didn’t fit in.

A side problem is the income is low compared to education debt. There were programs with the public health services that had a program that subsidized education if you worked rural.

I think it’s pretty tough to imagine wanting to live in a very rural place which usually equates to poorly funded schools, poor economies, more discrimination, etc. Most people who know better get out of that situation.

It's a big challenge. A lot fewer rural people have college degrees. Those thst get them are more likely to leave rural. The incentives offered for rural providers are too small to matter. Rural areas need primary care and medical schools tend not to support placements, residency slots in rural.
