But many of us LGBT+ folks are worried about his record. He has continually voted Republican, he has been openly homophobic, is against gender equality for women, and is transphobic.

He has also sheltered a priest who sexually abused children. ⬇️
After Pope Francis allowed priests to bless same-sex couples and permitted the baptism of transgender people in 2023, Prevost criticized the practicality of implementing such decisions in regions where homosexuality is illegal, saying, “The cultural realities in these areas make implementing this document unfeasible.”

Many of us have concerns for his stance on some of the most marginalized and vulnerable groups.

He may stand with immigrants, but his past shows he does not stand with LGBT+ people. Nor with women. Children who were victims of abusive priests don't seem to find any solace in his actions either.

But, God, is he really worth blessing when he's against LGBT+ people, is against gender equality for women, has sheltered a child abuser, and refused to investigate sex abuse in Peru?

Yes, he is against Trump, Vance, and their immigration policies, which I applaud him for. But any halfway moral person would do the same.

We can't make a hero out of someone who covered up sex abuse by other priests.

You're absolutely right to be critical of the new pope. His views on LGBT+ are known. He's also against women being in positions of power in the church and has ignored child abuse.

I mean, it really shouldn't be surprising but I see all these people claiming he's "woke" and "progressive".
