Poster reveal! Timonopoly is coming to @scotstorycentre.bsky.social 2-12 August

Come Fortune! Let’s play a game. It’s only money... Inspired by Timon of Athens, Timonopoly is a unique experience, a game, a show, an event. Let’s see how easily any of us can fall through the cracks... whoops! .
Poster for Timonopoly with the title at the top - Emily Carding, Caucasian, blonde with short hair wearing a ruff and white top holds up two dice for eyes. Fortune cards falling.

The third in Brite Theater's Conscience Trilogy, Timonopoly is a unique experience; a game, a show, an event - we're excited to have them back following the success of Richard III (a one-person show). 4/8 @kolbrunbjort.bsky.social @emilycarding.bsky.social

I'm reminded that they're raising money for this project, get mentioned in the program or if you're feeling flush, get a producer credit www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/timonopoly

I really enjoyed @kolbrunbjort.bsky.social's 'This is a Gift' @pitlochryft.bsky.social this afternoon. Beautifully written update to the Greek Midas myth set in contemporary Leith. Lovely performance from Blythe Jandoo and subtle direction by Sam Hardie.

Just begging theatre orgs to commit to ringfencing a percentage of programming funds to commission writers who otherwise simply cannot afford to write.

The canon can't always fire backwards, babe. Show faith in your contemporary community.

Somewhat craving the crazier, rougher, more dangerous work to oppose the current polished and pristine (which I'm also here for) though so if you're currently working on something bonkers, unclassifiable or uncomfortable I'd love chat.

I've stopped posting my opinions on theatre productions 'cause I'd just rather have the conversations but I'm seeing my regular 1-3 shows a week and there's some really fab talent on show. Like excellent.

And I know there's tons more and I know the whole industry will groan 'but it's haaaaaard' - yeah? Well put better practices in as industry standard and it stops being so hard. If you have the gall to talk the talk have the ovaries to walk the walk.

Hire assistant directors and dramaturgs already. Budget for them from the get go. The work is always better for it. If you don't know what they do sit a freaking seminar. Also movement directors, intimacy coordinators, fight choreographers...

Get in the bin with vague programming deadlines. Oh we're fully booked until 2027. But there's this thing that we fancy so suddenly it's on in two weeks time.

Stop sending out rejections end of day Friday. Just don't. Nah. Never.
kolbrunbjort.bsky.social
Stop raving on about accessibility if your methods of working have no flexibility. A ramp is not a policy it's the bare bloody minimum. If your rehearsals are 10-6, 6 days a week they are not accessible to all. If your events only take place at a certain time of day or weekday they are not either.
kolbrunbjort.bsky.social
Do not assign random numbers to your fees depending on who you are working with. What are your rates for which jobs? If you don't know or 'it depends' you are contributing to the pay gap and it's time you realised.
kolbrunbjort.bsky.social
Do not go on about how you want to open doors for new folk and then not list your emails on the website. Nothing boils my piss like this does.
kolbrunbjort.bsky.social
Don't offer no feedback. Even if you have a 1000 applicants there is a reason you said yes to this and no to this & you do know it. Stop pretending you don't. Unless your application process is an actual lottery. Yes yes small teams but genuinely, if you're gonna do an open call, budget for replies.
kolbrunbjort.bsky.social
Do not advertise a position and change the job description once you've got applicants in order to hire someone you fancy that doesn't quite fit the bill. I cannot believe how often I see this happen. Come on!
kolbrunbjort.bsky.social
Do not, for the love of all that's holy, make out you are a builder of community and then send out catch all rejection emails. If you care so much you should care enough to at least pop the applicant's blooming name on the reply.

Ok buckle up, rant incoming. I am very tired of organisations, big and small, talking endlessly about our industry and how we can make it fairer, better, not as mental health damaging and then adapting the same old shite practices we've had for over a decade now. Some examples:
