Retired academic. My books were only ever read by friends and family, and even they moaned when I didn’t offer them a discount…!
Sigh! What he said half a century ago matters. What he says or doesn’t say about it this week matters even more.

If I promise to be moronic can I get a publishing contract the same as Pollard?

So, it turns out that we DO need experts?
November 28, 2025 at 1:01 PM
Cough, cough. Let’s ignore the last 34yrs. Cough, cough. And the fact that council tax was excessively generous to expensive properties even in 1991. Cough, cough.

Maybe they should have some counter-Reith lectures where someone asserts that Harris was the most ‘openly corrupt almost-President in history’.

Does anyone know how to spell schadenfreude? A good article but re the final paragraph. Is it too much to hope that this will be a wake-up call to many editors and journalists? Alice knew she was falling down a rabbit hole, at least.

Hang on, hang on! I’m having a moment of enlightenment! Is THIS the reason Farage won’t apologise for all that teenage racism?

Few in the UK imagine that Starmer should not deal diplomatically with Trump. Starmer’s unpopularity has zero to do with that. Yes, how you deal with Trump is a delicate matter. The idea that No.10 has a sophisticated strategy/operation has taken a battering. But expediency comes with the job.

Is he still wandering lost around Heathrow airport, cursing Islamic Communists for his inability to read a fucking sign?
November 19, 2025 at 7:50 AM
Must start reading Rutger Bregman!
November 16, 2025 at 7:39 PM
Not surprising to see that the failure of Blue Labour under Starmer hasn’t phased him. Probably hasn’t noticed.

If those in power have any wit they will counter-sue the orange goblin for one billion + whatever that fiasco cost the taxpayer.
November 15, 2025 at 10:16 AM
Just when we needed No.10 to defend the BBC against the far Right. Really stepped up to the plate today, haven’t they?!
November 12, 2025 at 10:07 AM
“Yes, we dynamited the wall between respectable conservatism and the far Right BUT IT’S NOT OUR FAULT! Liberals and the Left forced us into it.”

Excellent article. The standard solution to collective action problems is to allow the ‘players’ to interact and communicate with one another and so build trust. The original expectation was that the Internet would facilitate this. Online Town Hall meetings, etc. Unfortunately…

Perhaps on his long, long journey he run into Mathew Gobshite.

When the star player scores, the fan doesn’t say “Aren’t they great?!” The fan says “Aren’t I great.” Reflected glory. Similarly, Trump always has to succeed at everything so that the cultist can succeed. His servility morphs, in his head, into empowerment.

Worshipping the rich and powerful. Which is what they’ve always wanted the rest of us to do.

Not unless it’s 51st state patriotism.
November 11, 2025 at 8:04 AM
Another one of society’s ignoranuses.
November 10, 2025 at 8:02 PM
I’m old enough to remember when people were saying ‘there are five years to go before the next election.’
November 10, 2025 at 4:45 PM
Wow. Having been excluded from the Rotunda during Trump’s second inauguration, Farage definitely wants an invite for the third.
November 10, 2025 at 12:58 PM
No doubt prior to flying to New Zealand to escape the apocalypse they are doing their best to engineer.
November 10, 2025 at 10:51 AM
Why did no one warn us about austerity?! Why did no one warn us about Brexit?!! Why did no one warn us that Johnson’s approach to Covid was damaging?!!! Why? Why? Why?
November 10, 2025 at 10:01 AM
The task for the Greens is to show the increasing salience of climate change for basic needs (food costs, rents/mortgages, transport, etc.). In short, natural events aren’t these distant events happening someplace else. They are happening on your dinner table and in your bank account too.
November 9, 2025 at 9:16 AM
Affordable housing. Cheaper transport. Cheaper food. Those Communist fuckers.
