I hope this inspires the journalist who Trump called “Piggy”.
Good morning to Brazilian reporter Manuela Borges, who’s been waiting eleven years for this petty moment. ❤️ 🇧🇷

Thinking about writing a column about my two tours at CENTCOM (2003, 2015-2019), my tour at NORTHCOM (2019-2020) and how SOUTHCOM ain’t ready to wage a real, “big boy” war. We are deeply into “Phase IV TBD” territory. IYKYK.

Since the discourse is very Star Wars today, my take: Magnum PI in Star Wars. The gang are all veterans of the rebellion (okay maybe Higgins is an ex-imperial turned rebel), Icepick is a Hutt, and Michelle was (maybe) a prisoner on the second Death Star during the battle of Endor. Writes itself.

Front row for Craig Finn and Patterson Hood in Austin. Patterson sang “Heathens” and Craig sang “Certain Songs” and it was perfect.

Cuomo has got to be feeling so stupid right about now.
Trump on Mamdani: "I think he's gonna surprise some conservative people, actually. And some very liberal people he won't surprise because they already like him."

Just finished rewatching Ted Lasso with our youngest (their first watch), and goddamn if I don’t cry with the final episode every fucking time. And this is my fourth time though. I’d have been a better Army leader with this in my life.

What a chipper way to return after a suspension!
First off, my suspension has ended. Got a little harsh with a post a few days ago but I didn’t have my feet on the ground and I’m sorry if I offended anyone. Will try to be more chipper. Knock on wood!

“If it still feels recent, that's trauma” is such a great way of assessing things. Using this.
Trump doing this is nonsense, but with deep respect, 9/11 was not "quite recently." Sorry old people (all of us over the age of 30). But my entire adult life has been after 9/11 (as has Mamdani's) and my childhood was a lifetime ago. If it still feels recent, that's trauma.
Politico is stirring up trouble, raising the possibility - seemingly out of the blue - that Trump could withhold a security clearance for Zohran Mamdani, denying him information on threats to the city that was quite recently the target of the worst terrorist attack in US history.

Had a delightful time in Albuquerque. Caught up with an old army buddy. Ate and drank at a an excellent food hall. Toured and was impressed by UNM, both for me as an MFA applicant and my kiddo as an aspiring astrophysicist.

Still laughing at the Longhorns. They got out-coached by Young Sheldon’s dad.
November 16, 2025 at 6:10 PM
lol. The Longhorns were so overrated. And Sark got out coached so bad.

I don’t want to hear another word about what a good dude Dan Caine is ever again.
NEW: Pete Hegseth and Gen. Dan Caine returned to the White House on Friday for a second consecutive day of deliberations centered on potential military action in Venezuela, as U.S. forces in the region prepared for possible orders.

High-level discussions, underway for days, have explored a variety of potential military options, people familiar with the matter said.

Toured the University of New Mexico in ABQ with my kiddo. She already got in (it’s her “safety school”), and I’m waiting to see if I got into their creative writing MFA program. We were both blown away by the campus and the vibe.

Bro looks like a poster child for fetal alcohol syndrome
When I was 37 I was dating a woman who was 19. The thing that inspired me to break things off was hearing Pearl Jam's "Alive" on the radio - a song released 9 years before her birth she had never heard . In that moment I realized things would never work.

Ted Kaczynski was pretty good at math.
I think the belief by the powerful that "people will put up with many things if you are excellent at math" is incredibly revealing in terms of understanding How We Got Here

For Veterans Day I crushed some all you can eat sushi and will be taking a nap. You’re welcome for my service.

Jesus, well hire me to write them. I can get past this pretty easily.
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

The Sunday morning Jiu Jitsu crew went out for breakfast after class yesterday. A friend snapped a picture of me engaging in one of my favorite activities after having engaged in one of my favorite activities. Good thing I had the right shirt.

Meanwhile in Austin.

Whelp, all my Creative Writing MFA applications are in. Florida International University, the University of Texas, the University of New Mexico, or Tech Tech here I (maybe?) come. Hopefully there is room for a busted up old Army officer in one of these programs.
