It's so disturbing. Tbh I'd blocked out that this was really going to happen

Zohran had nothing to lose by showing basic courtesy to u.s. prez. Much to be gained: $, reducing ice presence, appearing like a reasonable person who is serious about solving problems (particularly to trump voters who also voted for mamdani). And he made trump heel in minutes for the world to see.

i was surprised at first but in hindsight it makes sense. And the image of him standing there in the middle of the oval office, having already tamed this ridiculous monster, is a powerful one for the world to see.

I think Z asked for it and I think that was smart on multiple levels. We will see what comes next.

I'd almost forgotten this one. I appreciate the reminder for all of us. Such a despicable man.

@siembranc.bsky.social is fantastic and very small! I used to work with them on a bunch of labor and housing rights stuff and at least when I left North Carolina a few years ago they had maybe one full-time staff member. They are amazing and your donation will go far!

Perhaps due at least in part to the excellent work at the Crimson bsky.app/profile/bake...
They pulled him tonight

bsky.app/profile/bake...
The absolute first step was removing him from teaching and his center role (as I mentioned previously, these were easy to do since he had co-teachers). Now, the discussions about tenure can be had.

Or perhaps Larry is practicing medicine??

Copyediting loss is a good point. And yet if it jumped out at you, and me, and probably some other people vaguely familiar with NYT's general policy of no fancy honorifics--everyone is Ms. and Mr.--why didn't it jump out to them? I'm genuinely puzzled and infuriated

Why the hell does @nytimes.com call this guy Dr. Summers while Senator Warren, Professor Warren, becomes Ms. Warren? "Our style is to use “Dr.” only for those whose medical practice remains their primary occupation." www.nytimes.com/2017/11/08/r...

Why can't he go for schumer's seat instead?

It's obviously not okay for her child or any rich (white) child, in her view.

Despicable.

At the same time, some kinds of attacks contain a particular flavor of vitriol based in misogyny, and I find that kind of commentary saddening and deeply unhelpful, especially now.
November 14, 2025 at 9:04 PM
Yeah, she is horrible and they are more horrible and the media and financial institutions potentially hiding things is extraordinarily horrible and the harm to those children and their families is beyond horrible, but what we DON'T need is an extra dose of misogyny.
