My next read is
Sons and Other Flammable Objects
By Porochista Khakpour

No idea what I’m in for beyond the blurbs but it sounds fascinating!

You need to read Kindred by Octavia Butler.

I just finished it and highly recommend.

It’s brutal and raw and mystical and so complicated.

I need to go back and finish the Lillith’s Brood novels.

Picked this up for free from Books4Cause!

Well, not free. I basically traded it for 6 books but it still feels free!

My day job is in advertising.

I recently watched the Masterclass from Goodby & Silverstein and am 50% through this Ogilvy book.

I’m usually editing, so intaking more high level stuff is refreshing.

Spent the morning outlining my second novel!

Now heading to donate some books to Books 4 Cause. Trying to find some feminist non-fiction to pick up there as research for my novel.

After doing the math, it took 2 years and 19 weeks to get from the first iteration of GODDAMN! as a TV pilot to the day of calling it done as a full novel at 7.3 drafts.

Super stoked to be querying!

My next read is Kindred by Octavia Butler.

Rather appropriate given it is banned book week and also the month of Halloween.

I was immediately immersed and look forward to the rest of the book!

Draft 7.2 Progress:

Page: 230/411

I’ve more than cleared the halfway mark in my revision!

Time to decompress with some yoga accompanied by my workout buddy, Hua Hua.

Next book to read is The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood.

I always get this sense of deep comfort from her writing. May need to listen to her Master Class again.

Very grateful to have found this for free at Books 4 Cause.

This one’s going in the DNF pile.

So much stopping and starting, must move onto the next!

Picked these up at Ravenswood Used Books this weekend!

Super excited about both of them and am now in love with the shop.

It’s so chaotic and cluttered in there in the best ways possible.

Just finished Night Falls Fast: Understanding Suicide by Kay Redfield Jamison.

I picked this up after losing a friend to suicide a few months ago.

I don’t know what I was looking for but I didn’t find it.

I did find a lot of info and anecdotes from others that made me feel less alone.

Just finished reading In Search of Gay America by Neil Miller.

It is a beautiful, heartbreaking, and inspiring read.

It’s a great snapshot of the diversity in life and experiences of queer people during the height of the AIDs epidemic in the US.

I highly recommend.

Picked up In Search of Gay America by Neil Miller today.

Read about a third of it in a sitting, super engaged so far.

Happy Pride Month, read some gay books.

Everyday, I leave an hour early for work so I can get some writing in in the morning.

I love the ritual and feeling like I need to get up and go somewhere to write. Helps me feel professional and maintain consistency.

How do you help yourself stay consistent?

Just finished The New Jim Crow!

It’s a used copy so it had highlights from a conservative reacting in the margins with great rebuttals like:

*FALSE!* and *NUH UH*

Wild to see the crash-out.

Great book, I feel better equipped on the topics inside. Would recommend!

I love these Stabilo Boss highlighters. I held off on buying them for a while so I could do so as a reward for finishing the 5th draft.

They feel so good to use. It’s been great fun slashing my word count down with these bad boys.

Ordered a print of my new draft for myself and ordered some prints for beta readers who requested physical copies for this round of reading.

The feeling of having a physical copy never gets old.

Finished Cat's Eye by Margaret Atwood.

Quite a sobering and reflective read.

This is a book which I imagine hits differently depending on the reader's age.

I look forward to reading again in a decade or two!

Highly recommend.
