one of my New Year’s resolutions is to CAD more. I never learned in school but have futzed around with it a bit to make some simple designs to 3D print. would love any tips/recommendations/tutorials etc. that helped you learn!

Amazing post. One suggested addition, please please use data classes whenever possible instead of dictionaries. Raw dictionaries cannot be inspected without running the code and printing the keys. But data classes are basically self documenting! (And they can be typed).

I’m so glad I live during the period of human history in which we invented YouTube. I just watched a documentary about butter.

I suppose this is another way of saying that I’m grateful to have turned in my last graded problem set ever!

I wish media did a better job framing “scaling laws” for lay folks.

they’re empirical best-fit models on a log scale. 10% more data doesn’t help you, you need 10x.

If you're running into this problem (not having sufficient access to local public library books), the Queens Public Library offers out of state access for $50 (basically for this reason). I obviously haven't used it so don't know the details but worth looking into.

it’s good to leave cities sometimes to remind yourself what food is supposed to cost. take-out Chinese in my family’s town in NC is $10. as god intended.

a good life has many stages. birth, bar mitzvah, recognizing that functions are vectors, marriage, teaching your children that functions are vectors, death, etc.
