Therefore both ‘general intelligence’ and ‘intelligence’ have already outlived the (limited) scientific usefulness they had, and it’s high time to put them on the relic shelf next to phlogiston. Or behind it. At least phlogiston wasn’t invented by eugenicists.

Conclusions
1. Vaccines don’t “weaken” the immune system, they trigger/ strengthen its memory and ability to respond.
2. Giving vaccines together can actually be easier on the body: fewer: visits, fewer needle sticks, less stress.
3. The real risk isn’t too many vaccines, it’s too little protection.

💥BREAKING: Birds in a tropical pluvial rainforest of the Chocó have been quietly changing in morphology for 109 years. Some have shrunk, others grown. Tails grew longer, bills grew deeper. Even in forests with continuous cover, climate change may be rewriting evolution in real time.

It was instructive to go to the Amazon after that a year or two ago. In NYC, some of the world’s luckiest more or less despairing over salad. In the Amazon, people who can’t afford despair, getting on with their lives as best they could, with great efforts but little material support.

We went to the only place with high elevation forest between Hawaii and Asia: the island of Pohnpei in the Federated States of Micronesia. An extinct volcano older than the main Hawaiian Islands, Pohnpei is covered in intact ancient rainforest and cloudforest.
A view toward the ocean across forested mountain scenery, with palms in the foreground. This is on the slopes of Kupwuriso. A map of the southwest Pacific Ocean, with an arrow pointing to Pohnpei (capital city Kolonia). It's about 1500 km northeast of New Guinea and 1500 km southeast of Guam and 5000 km southwest of Hawaii and perfect in every way.

And as for writing, don't get me started. Most often, the process of writing is not a laborious business of transcription, but a process of thinking itself. I'm not about to outsource my thinking to a machine.

New research analyzing more than 3,000 tropical forest sites reveals that areas with fewer seed-dispersing animals store up to four times less carbon than forests with healthy wildlife populations.

The study found that 81% of tropical trees rely on animals to disperse their seeds.
Animals that spread seeds are critical for climate solutions
