Hot takes about ridiculous things only. Designated rocks (mis)identifier. Ineffective Aesthete.
I'll roll peanut butter, chili crisp, and spam in a small corn tortilla and eat it cold.
BlueSky: tell me your food crimes

for example, I eat string cheese by just biting right into the stick

Caught up on Murderbot and I'm obsessed with the dramatic comedy of SecUnit and Gurathin having the exact same reactions when they're apart and the exact same opinions in the opposite direction when they're together

This is true and yet I want one anyways. With a firefighter pole in the middle to slide down.
There are very important things to focus on.

Also, as an aside, I think spiral staircases in a home are an affront to humanity.

Ok if someone asks you how to prep for No Kings, don't warn them about kettles and tear gas, warn them about the literal sun.

"Bring a hat, sunscreen, snacks, twice as much water as you think you need, and flag/sign of your choice. Wear comfy shoes. If your phone is old bring a battery pack."
I’ve seen a lot of hand wringing about the dangers of going to No Kings protests and gently, I want to tell people to chill a little. These are permitted marches and the point is to be out there and seen en masse. Please don’t scare off people who are maybe going to their very first protest

normalize writing an emo poem and walking into the nearest river as an appropriate response to being given morally unconscionable orders by a deranged would-be emperor

Not a writer but in between bad fanfic I wrote the first 30-ish pages of the following novels before abandoning them:

- Eragon ripoff, but the dragons are alien space eagles
- Murder Tomboy goes to evil magic school
- Teenager falls into hell, is adopted by Satan, becomes crown princess of hell
so, to the writers... what was the terrible novel you wrote at 14? Mine was about a redhaired freedom fighter called Eleanor Sunstripe

Reading comprehension is bad on this site, but my hot take is that some of this is because people write badly and expect to be understood.

You can't prevent a stranger from taking your words in bad faith (waffles/pancakes), but if your sentences are an incoherent mess, that's a you problem.
An observation.

Short staccato sentences reduce this.

So does adding line breaks.

Comes at a cost though.

Makes you sound like someone failing to write haiku.
One thing social media has taught me (though I have definitely experienced it in other media too): a lot of people, even quite smart people, are worryingly bad at reading comprehension. For instance: many have trouble distinguishing between someone *describing* a thing and *advocating* that thing.

The nyt article has this nyt-hosted screenshot static01.nyt.com/images/2025/...

So one would hope the author read the cnn article in the screenshots he presumably took before writing a flattering profile of the guy.

The cnn article, for reference: www.cnn.com/2022/11/10/a...

there should be age verification + labeling on bluesky if only so that I can immediately discount the opinions of 14-year old edgelords, instead of having to read them and take mental damage first

I'm saving this for the watch party, and this review is making it even harder to wait!

Slightly disagree about the casting though, I would've liked an nb actor but it's also kinda nice to see someone who presents outwardly as cis male as you can get, being pointedly not cis

for some reason google translate really wants to read 無 as "pussy" at all times

英勇無敵 -> heroic pussy enemy (google please fix your tokenizer???)

anyways, I think it would really enjoy the classic play "Much Ado about 無"

- the vatican elects woke chicago pope in retaliation

what a wild timeline

Rapidly becoming in favor of competence tests for voting that are like

I feel like I'm going insane when I see "we need Abundance to be non-partisan" in deep-blue cities.

I don't care what the national median voter thinks, the people writing California zoning laws are all Democrats! Why are you chasing an imaginary west coast urban Republican bloc!
I think why I'm sus on the Abundance Bros is they lack a sense of partisan feelings
It’s more than a little upsetting that parts of the Abundance book seem lifted from Mark Andreesen’s “Little Tech Agenda” that was written even as he was donating to Trump’s reelection

While the delusional overconfidence of the bottom 2/3 of this chart is incredible, I'm also mildly confused at the 30% of people who think they would lose in a fistfight with a rat

Hot take, it's important to make kids read Shakespeare in school. Not for the content, but in order to train the skill, stamina, and patience to read tiring and unfamiliar prose.

If you can power through Henry IV, you have the mental muscle to read a longform news article

The best way to roast and eat marshmallows is to peel them, eat the crispy bit only, and put the rest back over the campfire. Rinse and repeat.

This is because marshmallows are secretly personal dessert shawarmas.
I wish BlueSky could have more of a global audience so we can have more food wars.

I have experience in the jollof wars and the great gumbo skirmish of 2021

this will not make anything less stupid but I would like to introduce trump to the concept of git squash

like maybe instead of saying ten contradictory stupid things in a row, you can batch them into a single stupid thing, maybe once a day? once a week, even? you can even shut up forever???

what a great time to be dependent on very expensive meds that the specialty pharmacy will only ship one month's supply of at a time
April 9, 2025 at 3:15 AM
This is a tangent, but this is one reason why I don't think any of the AI publishers are going to get anywhere (putting aside the quality and ethics for now)

Doesn't matter how cheap it is to produce tons of slop if even (artisanal, fully human-produced!) books are too expensive to print
Get ready to have fewer books published every year - and the ones we get are more likely to be from big (white) authors who are guaranteed to sell.
The discourse around tariffs has been “things will get more expensive” but I am here to tell you that I am knee deep in reporting on this subject and I strongly suspect that if super high tariffs endure, it will shift to *certain items cease to be available at any price*

Also like, people generally don't get hurt in sports because people generally don't want to hurt each other!

I and all my cis girl soccer teammates were perfectly physically capable of wrecking each others' ankles, but we didn't. Because we were there to play the game! And we weren't psychopaths!
but in sports without weight brackets, there is such a natural variation in the size/strength of cis people that you're far far far more likely to be injured by a cis person that happens to be bigger or stronger than you, than by a trans person.

Trade wars aside, $450 for a newly released console is a fair price and $80 for an AAA video game is a deal, actually.
