and it's everywhere - not just in Vancouver and Victoria. Same here in Campbell River. The new "Re-Imagine the Row" will see rental above commercial in a block that was demolished. Who will be able to afford the new commercial rents?

I think one asks for 3 months before sharing, the other 6 months. I was ok with that as a newbie poet. Now, 6 months seems long to me.

they even had a contract, and when I questioned them, they said they had been advised to proceed in this fashion. Not worth it, in my opinion. If it was a top-tier litmag then I'd consider but not a new magazine. There are several small print magazines/anthologies who have been very good to me...

Rights - what's the sweet spot for you as a writer? Many magazines revert rights to the author upon publication, but others ask for 3 months, 6 months,a year before reverting. Some even ask not to share the full piece. Is there a deal-breaker for you? #WritingCommunity #PoetryCommunity #BskyPoets

take heart, dear ones
there is light and hope, love and joy
at the end of a road which seems
long and dark

lean on wisdom transmitted through generations
as simple as the pie dough you are rolling
as complex as knowing wind, tide, current
the best spots for fishing
what to do in lean years
how to work together, collaborate
celebrate community and family

each of us, a link in the chain
a strand in the web
a fibre in the rope
joining us as one – a breathing unit

in tune with the earth and universe
breathe – in and out,
ike tides on the shores
rush and roll, clatter of rock
in tune with our heartbeat.

what the old ones knew – we hope to find
a talisman and help against hard times
