I get what you're saying but I'm just gonna repeat myself: a dev has every right to make a game the way they like; a player has every right to criticize the "it's not made for you" approach. Conflating "not everyone enjoys everything" and "this wasn't made for everyone to enjoy" doesn't help really.

*Some players* not wishing to be given a choice except for the only intended way to play vs countless people who still play that intended way despite being given a choice, plus everyone who wouldn't touch a game due to it "not being made for them" is a pretty obvious issue for me tho.

That would be their personal choice, not the developer's responsibility, as is with any game that has difficulty settings. That also means that given that choice, some people would have engaged with the game in more ways than one, which - imo - makes it a much less rigid and restrictive experience

I'm just here for the little guys and to be my favorite character in every videogame: a sneaky fuck with a bow

You literally replied to *my* comment my dude, don't act like it was the other way around lol. Maybe this convo just isn't for everyone and you should get good before engaging? 🤔

Either way, muting you now. Take care!

I'm gonna assume by how you decided to talk about this that your mind is already made up and you're only here to argue, not just because you obviously chose to ignore the medium I'm talking about, but also due to how aggressive you are about it. Feel free to "debate" someone who's interested :) 👋

Why would I talk about unrelated genres of art when I'm talking specifically about videogames? Like how is that related to the discussion at all lol

As developers, people have every right to make any games they want to make. As a player, I have every right to criticize the "my game isn't for you" approach that's based on subjective metrics like difficulty or skill ("enjoy this the way I intend you to or get good" vibe) rather than genre.
November 29, 2025 at 2:54 PM
Right but the post I'm replying to talks about games in general, not one specific game. And what I was saying is that difficulty and challenge are subjective metrics and assuming that those subjective things will be taken by all players the way you intend them to is probably not realistic.

that... was absolutely not what I'm talking about, at all.

idk what you're arguing with here but it's not anything I said lol

I never said that it was not their decision or their choice, nor that the game was bad or anything like that.

Missing out on some money is not the point at all. Just because something was intentional doesn't mean this intent is the only good option. Plenty of intentional decisions in gaming turn out to be wrong on not player-friendly, regardless of the final product's quality.

like the people who wish to suffer every second they're playing the game can *still do it*.

they can get their achievements and clips and bragging rights

and the rest of us can tailor our experience and have a great time too! why is that a problem lol
November 29, 2025 at 2:41 AM
Some of those games get gifted to us because our friends genuinely think we'll enjoy them, and we never get to play them. Some - because we see our friends and loved ones being hyped about something and we want to share it with them, only to find out it's a miserable experience for us.
November 29, 2025 at 2:35 AM
like I can't imagine loving a game and then thinking that other people shouldn't be allowed to enjoy it simply because they'd prefer a difficulty slider or adjusting certain mechanics to be more accessible and fun for them.
November 29, 2025 at 2:29 AM
it's better on bsky but I still sometimes see the same "simply don't suck" mindset and like

it's exhausting

easier modes change absolutely nothing for people who love the challenge, but they're the *only way* to enjoy a game for literally everyone else

why don't you want more people to enjoy it?

i.e. if BG3's only difficulty was honor or even tactician, it would have been an incredible disappointment for so many people who just want to play through the story or explore all the different endings/scenarios. The game wins by having difficulty settings for every preference.
