To those who say that I’m out of touch with the views of my district I say this: I ran for this seat to represent those who don’t get a voice. Who don’t have traditional access to power. You probably won’t hear their voices at a neighborhood association, but they still exist and I am their councilor

This is far worse than anyone expected.

Trump's HUD plan would cut *two-thirds* of permanent housing and push as many as 170,000 formerly homeless people back onto the street—redirecting funds to work mandates, forced treatment, and encampment sweeps.

All as mass internment camps are being built.

I learned how to identify drug paraphernalia when I was in second grade at, now-defunct, Edward’s Elementary next to Sewallcrest Park.

It was not traumatizing. I felt informed and able to respond in a safe way.

Stop weaponizing children and seniors to rationalize sweeps.

People are giving Mayor Wilson more time to implement his homeless policy than they did for the state to implement Measure 110.

This naked attempt by wealthy special interests to steal these funds from low income Portlanders under the guise of “public safety” is ugly and frankly, offensive. #orpol

Why are people so convinced that Portland has a uniquely intractable mental health and addiction problem that cannot be all but ameliorated by upstream measures like universal health care, affordable housing, and quality education ~WHILE~ investing in supportive services?

Here's another piece about how Portland's methods, ie sweeps without bountiful supportive housing and services for people to be "swept" into, do not work, and kill people www.propublica.org/article/port...
Portland Said It Was Investing in Homeless People’s Safety. Deaths Have Quadrupled.
The city responded to an increase in homeless deaths by intensifying encampment sweeps and adding emergency shelter at the expense of permanent housing. Experts say this has perpetuated the problem.

My latest.

I've been quiet recently, I know.

A lot of people have said that getting fired from the Washington Post is a "badge of honor".

It's....complicated.

Mayor Wilson still trying to scare councilors to vote down @councilormorillo.bsky.social’s budget amendment. Making up what programs would be cut… and pitting orgs that seek to help low income people against low income people.

Get your testimonies in… the oral ones are stacked in his favor.

You can't end homelessness without housing.

Portland's Mayor removed the expert leading us toward proven solutions (social housing = what works in Vienna).

The City Council voted unanimously for this work. Our community deserves better.

Sending love to everyone whose health care has been jeopardized by the Democratic cave-in. These Democratic elites will not be part of the solution. We must proceed with that understanding.

Please email Portland City Councilors directly to vote in favor of Morillo’s amendment. Testimony is great, but that direct outreach is really important right now.
Very excited to see @councilormorillo.bsky.social introduce an amendment to the fall budget adjustment to shift funding from sweeps to other critical city functions! That is half of one of our demands in our Finding Home petition linked in my bio.

Show up and support Morillo’s amendment!

Our amendment doesn’t cut those things.

Mayor Wilson could’ve called me to clarify and ask questions before blasting us in a newsletter, but of course he has to find a scapegoat when he doesn’t magically end homelessness on 12/1 by warehousing people.

Looking forward to clarifying this tomorrow.
The Impact Reduction Program also provides trash abatement, which is essential in maintaining clean, walkable sidewalks for all Portlanders. We shouldn‘t cut their budget.

My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard.

We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.

We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.
