Swimming in the Danube was an 11/10.

I want Portland to have a beautiful, clean, and police-free waterfront!

Would also not mind giving Vienna a run for their money on largest floating trampoline.

Toured Alterlaa today! A housing project that homes over 3000 people with over a 90% happiness rate. There is a shopping mall, multiple rooftop swimming pools, indoor swimming pool, a sports complex, beautiful walking areas, schools, and more.

Dream big, friends!

A social housing complex I was really impressed by in a newer development in Seestadt (NE Vienna).

By no means perfect, but…!!!

I didn’t get a picture of it but the Elinor-Ostrom-Park is located under the train bridge and has basketball courts, rock walls, gyms and a place to practice biking!

The building has a covenant allowing the tenant to paint/decorate within arm’s reach of their window “so that one can see from afar on the street: there lives a person”

Here are some pictures from the Hundertwasser-Krawina Haus.

This municipally owned housing project was completed in 1985, the facade designed by expressionist painter, Friedensreich Hundertwasser.

We can create affordable housing that adds beauty and cultural significance to our community.

Urban Loritz Platz - a transit hub with food, a skate park, a clearly marked bikeway, and autobus stops. They even still have pay phones!

Payphones are precious to me; the digitizing of modern life has made many tasks inaccessible. My eSIM isn’t working so a public phone is nice in a pinch here.

A little nuance to this one - the old buildings are constantly being renovated. This is good for tenants AND THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY. Instead of relying on the boom and bust cycle of new development, there are consistent opportunities for work. Sometimes buildings need to be rebuilt. No downsides.

I’ll do my best to take more pictures of Vienna tomorrow but here are some small parts of the city I enjoyed today. And, yes, the Belvedere gardens are PUBLIC. Having a state invest so much in their urban green spaces is magical. Did not get to the PUBLIC sculpture garden yet, but hope to soon.

You’d think a comms manager would catch this clunky framing in their bio.

Apparently, Oregon and Portland have a lot to offer.

It’s Mac & Cleo’s 9th birthday today! I can’t believe they’re so old when they have literally been menaces all day. They already have enough treats and toys, so if you want to give them anything please send them well-wishes for the next year bc I don’t think we can afford any vet emergencies.
