I don’t doubt it! I love my Smith-Corona Cougar XL (my only manual ultraportable), but I can’t imagine trying to carry around a class set of them. Have you looked at thermal typewriters? I’ve got three of those that I carry around regularly and enjoy using.

That is really rough. I generally stay away from plastic-y typewriters, but trying to stay under $50 is hard. I love that you are using them with students! I am of the belief that if everyone typed a single page on a typewriter per day, the world would be a much better place.
