I'm riding high today after last night's premiere of my new musical "Love Chicken", written with @mkpinla.bsky.social and Tony Gonzalez. It's a scary time, but people coming together really does make me feel great. 😊

Overall, we put on more than 30 events, plus classes and parties, and paid over $17,000 directly to trans creators. There are a few days left of the festival—and yes, we have to do it again, because we learned so much. I've also assembled the board for a non-profit for ongoing programming!

We prioritized accessibility and diversity, and thanks to the work of dspstudio.la, recorded and streamed most of the shows. Incredible volunteers leveled up the festival in gorgeous ways, including this "Common Room"-inspired set with "F*ck t*rfs" written backwards above the shelves.

Venues, tech, and promotion were funded by crowdfunding, so theater artists needed only to create something wonderful - and got 100% of their ticket sales as profit (this never happens in festivals). Participants ranged from first-timers to big names like Chaz Bono and Rebecca Sugar.

When I learned that the Potter play would be coming to Los Angeles for several months, I got sad. I knew folks would go see this play, despite JK Rowl*ng saying that folks spending money to see her stuff is an endorsement of her ideals. So we did something about it!

I would like to invite you to a comedy and theater festival in Los Angeles (and online) created out of spite, to remind us all - They cannot kill our joy. They cannot erase it and they cannot outlaw it. This is the JOY WHO LIVED! (please share!)

It is a truly bizarre time to be in LA. We evac’d for a few days to a hotel - cat loved it. We took the dog to the beach. Our neighborhood is fine right now - many aren’t. The wind is loud. Thankful for @mkpinla.bsky.social and community ❤️
