Disappearing acts as an m.o. lately, oops.

Made it to dawn a while back, quick digital color study trying to wrap my head around how this could translate into paint. Shapes, shadows, and very delicate luminations.

Otherwise, wrapping up two complex paintings I hope to share soon.

It's real!! My art is living its best life in the California sunshine.

This is melting my mind more than a little bit. The installation is so, so *gorgeous*

Rolling along. Especially loving that bit of water from my painting of time spent in Venice.

Though - one of my techniques is using phthalo green (blue shade) to build up glazed layers of a nice vibrating dark, and no camera has ever been able to pick up its glow and depths. Whomp.

Sneak peek!

"Coral Hour"

Earlier this year I was commissioned to paint three landscapes of Chula Vista to be turned into 4x6' signs publicly installed at the newly opened Gaylord Pacific Resort. Well, they're finally up!

Okay, working on two paintings like this is crazy making. Slowly but surely though… (so, so much farther to go)

All I want in life, summed up in one painting:

Hit some flow state today. Roughing in brighter colors before I bring desaturation into balance. I’ve never worked on two paintings simultaneously like this before, but since they’re related, makes sense. Two times the buzzy brain, though.

How it started / How it’ going. Many shifts ahead.

These victorian door knockers have me completely under their odd little spell. This piece is a riff from this older idea, an inktober from way back.

My internal seasons are habitually out of step. I'm trying to work through winter pieces so they'll maybe be done by the first drifting of snow?

Here's a thought from last year I worked out digitally that's on the mental back burner. Wonder if it'll ever make it on canvas.

The latest. I've been thinking about personal lore and stories we tell to / about ourselves. This one has a really long rambling title, so here I'll just call it -

I painted this sketch (left) a few years ago thinking it was a quiet and magnetic view but - worthy of recording? Painted it anyway.

Stumbled upon this Degas piece I'd never seen before (right) & am feeling better about the view that drew my eye.

Memories, courtesy of my record box.
Ten points if you can name the album (Twenty five if you've listened to it).

This was the start of toying with perspective on the outer edge of my canvases.

This is my brain on books.

Art just knocks me sideways - be it books, music, paintings, fashion, you name it. I will never understand anyone who isn't absolutely voracious about art. It's the air in my lungs.

So I have this really exciting commission on my easel, & at times I need a guide when trying to wrap my head around handling certain compositions, shapes, brushwork - art is constant study as well as practice. So I'm sitting here with one of my favorite art books - (con't in comments)

Here's another one that vibes off yesterday's post. Why does dumb shit like this make me laugh? I saw this on my way to work and it conjured a story, so I wanted to remember it in paint.

Painted this before I thought we'd get thrown a shovel. A scene about my town. Love the street painter for this gem.

I have a selection of original paintings, like this one, and prints available in my shop:

& my alternate, keyed up take on yesterday's color study.

I wanted to paint this ten more times, but other projects took hold. Original illustration from the January 1918 cover of McCalls magazine by illustrator Z.P. Nikoloaki.
