Le rapport de HRW (@hrw-fr.hrw.org) souligne le besoin urgent d’intensifier les opérations de recherche et de sauvetage dans l’Atlantique, auxquelles l’UE et l’Espagne devraient accroître leur soutien, plutôt que de donner la priorité aux interceptions et aux retours forcés de migrants.

Entre 2020 et 2024, un nombre croissant de migrants et de demandeurs d’asile ont tenté d’emprunter la « Route Atlantique » en bateau depuis le nord-ouest de l’Afrique jusqu’aux îles Canaries espagnoles, dont un grand nombre depuis la Mauritanie.

Some hope: Mauritania has taken some recent positive steps & made commitments that may improve respect for migrant rights, detailed in the @hrw.org report.

Mauritania should build on these efforts, increase oversight of security forces, & end abuses against migrants.
