From what I learned watching Jenny Nicholson’s video on The Vampire Diaries the other day, I suspect you could use ChatGPT to completely replace the writer’s room on that show without anyone noticing.

We also wrote a bulletin-boardish thing that let you include vt100 escape sequences in posts, which led to animations which led to ongoing characters and a whole lot of juvenile innuendo. Still have a lot of that stuff but it’s on 8” disks. And probably only works on actual hardware (at 2400 baud).

We wardialed vt100 escape sequences and found some neat stuff. I think the best was an instantly-triggering “as fast as the hardware can handle” autorepeat that made keyclick sound like buzzy tones. Different characters displayed at different speeds (interesting) so “played” different “notes”.

I had the pleasure of interviewing for a web job at Beatnik back in the day and while it wasn’t a good fit (this is pre-therapy lol) we had a nice chat and he toured me around. I got to see his Fairlight, in pieces, on the floor of his office, which for me was a pilgrimage-grade experience.
