you’d think being a nerd every waking hour would make me knowledgeable…
Ah I didn't see the data science bit (I didn't look further into the thread than just this chain). Numpy and pandas strike a blow against language diversity yet again 😔

Julia probably is the best choice then

gleam is definitely what I thought of, even more than haskell

This is basically APL if you think about

on there. Is it just to advertise her OF? Maybe? But it’s framed so weirdly even for that I don’t get it at all

be funny (in her own words) but the only joke I can parse out of a lot of her videos is that she’s implying the viewer finds her attractive (or that she is attractive more generally), which is probably true but not particularly funny (and I don’t think she thinks it is) so I don’t know what’s going

To be fair, at that point I question why you even have a default. If the default isn't meaningful I think it's ok for the programmer to have to choose a meaningful value themselves

I have to use an another object to push my toes against to get it and even then it’s a bit awkward

Tbh I didn’t check if it was possible, I just assumed it was because it’s such a common cultural idea that you can do it 😭

Teeth are a good shout, with the downside that you can’t talk if needed 😔

you're not just "writing unsafe code" anymore, you're "unsafemoding" now

C has support for 32bit integers on 8bit systems, languages are definitely allowed to use a whole bunch of instructions to do things (and rotation is like bitshifts and 2 bitwise ops which almost everywhere supports as three instructions it's chill)

*maybe* fine but is not the vibe I'm going for 🙃

have to use `unsafe` which would be so stupid for a ctf challenge. "Hi guys, here's the explictly marked code path for you to attack" lol

It's really easy to write concurrency bugs, but it's hard to make them exploitable naturally without having a check that explicitly hands the flag over, which is

Fair enough, that's mostly what I do, although sometimes I feel like I'm missing out without a GC* when I want to do something with graphs and I think that I should have maybe used haskell or w/e

* Being able to `match` transparently through (A)Rc would do a lot to help with this

I am shocked by the lack of a functional language to be honest (especially since you're clearly not *just* systems languages since you have python). Idk maybe that's profiling but I'm sure you've said that you like SICP

If it’s undirected this is true, but a directed tree can be a line with only 1 leaf. I would consider a node on a directed tree to have a notion of “parent” and “children” and would only consider something to be a leaf if it had no children

that’s one of the main perks of getting a doctorate. you get a gender neutral title that’s fairly often available on these forms 😅
