My review of this book was that it felt like a big, warm hug and I can’t think of a better way to describe it. Comforting, healing, and a beautiful escape from the real world

The premise of “a man slowly turns into a great white shark” seems silly and ridiculous but the emotional impact hit hard. The use of magical realism to take a look at what it’s like to love someone whose mind and body slowly succumb to illness… remarkable

I finished this a couple days ago and although I have some conflicting feelings about the ending and I don’t think the book was perfect, the magic system and use of linguistics and translation were incredible

I went on a huge Mary Oliver binge this year and have read almost half her works now but this large collection is by far my favorite. I took this book on hikes with me all over Colorado and read next to mountain peaks, meadows, lakes and trees. Pure magic

A fiction novel about a Palestinian refugee turned revolutionary that could easily be nonfiction. Very timely read given the ongoing genocide in Palestine. Not an easy read by any means but absolutely worth it

Phenomenal and utterly heartbreaking, I cried so many times reading this. I read it back in January and continue to think about it all the time. One of those books that hits you like a sledgehammer. The research and love that Gyasi put into this is remarkable
