PSA: if anyone in your life is trying to dissuade you from getting the shingles shot, you should probably assume that person hates you, and wants you to suffer. There is literally no other explanation.

Shingles hurts worse than childbirth. Worse than knee surgery. Worst pain of my life.
I am baffled by this because I have had so many friends with shingles and NONE of them made it sound fun. Not one. A vaccine that made me absolutely miserable for 48 hours would still be a huge improvement over the mildest case of shingles I've heard of. (Also it made me tired for 1 day.)
All over my FB people talking about their bad experiences with shingles vax and dissuading each other from getting it! We need to give people real info on how to mitigate the symtoms caused by vaccines because vaccines are always better than meeting a virus unprepared. Yet drs aren't coaching ppl

Attention NYC: We made it past the earliest sunset of the year.

No, it's not on the solstice. That's the shortest day, but the earliest sunset is sooner and the latest sunrise is later.

So those of us who, like me, are primarily offended by early sunsets have officially survived rock bottom.

The good news is, in my experience, high schools students hate participation being forced like this. When I started hs, we had a 300 person marching band. When we got new directors junior year and they made it mandatory for all students in band classes, people dropped band altogether.
Most student groups originate because there's student interest in doing something. I can't think of any other clubs that are state-mandated.
Happening now: Texas leaders announcing a rollout of a statewide program to put TPUSA chapters in high schools and colleges across the state. Gov. Abbott adds that schools that stand in the way should be reported to the Texas Education Agency.

Also, "performing abortions" is really just "emptying the contents of the uterus," which is a skill medical providers need to have independent of abortion!
This change would be disastrous. If you are taking care of pregnant women you need to know how to perform abortions even if you don't intend to perform them routinely. I have heard horror stories of doctors who have not been trained absolutely butchering women who have needed them in emergencies.
Ob-gyn residency programs are required to offer abortion training, and people can choose to opt out.

Anti-abortion advocates are pushing a seemingly small but consequential change: to make the training opt-IN. Jody Steinauer explains how "it’s really hard to go out of your way to get trained."

Reupping this because it came up in the discourse again. The gospel story about Jesus healing on the Sabbath isn’t what you think it is:

The Pharisees thought that healthcare workers deserved weekends.

Jesus didn’t.
(1/19/22) #Delafina777-Judaism #Delafina777-Christianity

So, the man with the withered hand story is actually a prime example of how the gospels demonize--or get used to demonize--completely normal behavior from Jews.

If you call it a “male immaturity epidemic,” a very different set of phenomena come into focus, as this thread shows
I'm starting to wonder how much "the male loneliness epidemic" is just straight and bisexual women identifying low-effort, mean, and incompetent men and choosing not to date, marry, and tolerate them anymore

“So! This is just a nice little reminder that generative AI is shit. Total shit! It scrapes everything we’ve ever written and then can’t even sort through it fast enough to give us a correct answer, all the while burning down the world to lie to us. What a truly nightmarish thing we’ve created!”

it sort of foregrounds an important truth though - that Israel as a "solution" is in part a creation of the goyim and has seved them in important ways. The US supports the state (and the two state solution) for its own geopolitical reasons - not because of us.

Imagine being a goy and standing up and telling Jewish people they don’t know or understand their own fucking history. That Jews are ignorant and too uneducated to have correct opinions about the Jewish issue of our time that has broken families and communities. You absolute piece of trash.
Hillary Clinton blames TikTok and “totally made up” videos for young people’s views on Israel and Palestine.

She says social media influenced “not just the usual suspects” but also “young Jewish Americans who don’t know the history and don’t understand.”

One more thing if you’re an educator or academic, ie, in my profession:
Please do not ever shame your students online. Never. It might start a discourse, gain you a gazillion followers, likes or quotes, but ain’t worth it.
Whatever it is & however they are lacking, speak with them. Don’t out them.
I’ve always held that it’s about a model of society we want to establish & maintain. The ableist notion of ‘accommodations have gone too far’ is not even a stone’s throw away from ‘there’s too much diversity’ or that ‘women are the weaker’ whatevs. Disability justice is tied to all forms of justice.
We need to be able to see that the line "accommodations have gone too far" is an expression of the ableist notion that disabled students do not belong in higher ed. Its fundamentally an anxiety about the fact that disabled students get an "advantage" over abled students.

Begging reporters to make this distinction. She did not "cite" the Bible, she *invoked* the Bible.

"Citing" is this: "According to the Genesis account, 'In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth'" (Genesis 1:1, KJV)."

Just saying "the Bible says" before your claim isn't citing.
There literally wasn't a single citation given. Even when she referred to the Bible--the ONLY text she refers to by name--she couldn't even cite which verses she quoting.

I was an English student at OU. I can fuckin guarantee that any one turning in an essay like this--Bible or no--would get a 0.

This would be great for running a hostel for cats? If they like sink and counter lounging, potentially need separate quarters with doors to separate them, and giant windows—it’s kind of an ideal cat palace! Cats don’t need to cook or store very much in closets, after all.

And that's the crux of it. They are anti-education, anti-thought, anti-intelligence. There is no debating or arguing with them, they should be roundly denounced and ridiculed. TPUSA are proudly displaying this POS essay as some kind of own when they are too stupid to see how terrible it is.
But that's kinda the whole point here. The instructor was correct by any standard any competent university is going to use. That standard conflicts with the worldview TPUSA and its allies hold. There's no compromise with these people.

Why are students having learning challenges?

I can't imagine:
I just read my tenth #COVID19 research study in the past month or so that demonstrates COVID infections cause brain changes that may accelerate Alzheimer's disease, are associated with cognitive decline, and cause fatigue, memory impairment, and sleep disorders. (1/?)
