-cont- signed by author, or with inscriptions you want to save- even when the book is in awful shape, just tear out that page & scan it before you toss the rest of book. take photos if you need to, for possible insurance claim, including page where it shows publication date... good luck!

-cont- salvageable books to bags, pour in a lot of baking soda, reseal for a few weeks. brush off/vacuum the baking soda, spread them out open in front of HEPA air filters & fan for a few days. some may be saved! depending on the kind of paper used, the smell may be gone. if you have some -cont-
